Sand Times | Tiempos de Arena

A poetic approach to environmental problems taking as its axis the desert.

“Sand Times” is a fabric of imaginary experiences and stories that proposes a

reflection on our complex bond with a nature as untamed as it is vulnerable.
This project arises from an exploration trip to Mauritania carried out at the beginning of
2020 by the artists who are members of the group. The medieval libraries that are
being buried by the advancing desert sand, the problem of the scarcity of the
water and desert reforestation projects have been part of the research that
Focus performed on the spot.

Direct and Intervened photographs, collage, installations and video reconstruct a desert
that oscillates between the document and the fiction. In “Sand Times”, the artists rearm their
sensations of Mauritania and they propose us a playful challenge of disorientation, which
tries to deny the desert but to poeticize it and question us about our leading role in the
becoming uncertain of the times and of nature.

“Tiempos de Arena” es un tejido de
vivencias e historias imaginarias que
propone una
reflexión sobre nuestro complejo
vínculo con una naturaleza tan
indómita como vulnerable.
Este proyecto surge apartir de un viaje
de exploración a Mauritania realizado
a inicios del
2020 por las artistas integrantes del
grupo. La bibliotecas medievales que
están
siendo enterradas por la arena del
desierto que avanza, la problemática
de la escases del
del desierto, han sido parte de la
investigación que
Enfoco realizó en el lugar.
Fotografías directas e Intervenidas,
collage, instalaciones y video
reconstruyen un desierto
que oscila entre el documento y la
ficción. En “Tiempos de Arena”, las
artistas rearman sus
sensaciones de Mauritania y nos
proponen un desafío lúdico de
desorientación, que no
intenta negar el desierto sino
poetizarlo e interpelarnos sobre
nuestro rol protagónico en el
devenir incierto de los tiempos y de la
naturaleza.
