PAST SIMPLE (REGULAR VERBS)

We use the Past Simple to talk about actions that finished in the past. (Usamos el Pasado
Simple para hablar acerca de acciones que finalizaron en el pasado)
Spelling rules (regular verbs)
1) En la mayoría de los casos añadimos -ed a los verbos regulares.
Ejemplos: Wash: Washed Finish: Finished Talk: Talked
2) A los verbos que terminan en -e, solo añadimos una -d.
Ejemplos: Like:Liked Live: Lived
3) A los verbos que terminan en consonante + -y omiten la -y y agregan -ied.
Ejemplos: Study: Studied Carry: Carried Try: Tried
4) Los verbos que terminan en vocal + -y añaden -ed
Ejemplos: Played Stay: Stayed

Casos especiales:

1. Los verbos de una sílaba que terminan en vocal +consonante como es el caso de
stop, plan, chat; duplican la última consonante.
Ejemplos: Stop: Stopped Plan: Planned Chat: Chatted
2. Los verbos de dos sílabas; duplican la última letra si el acento recae en la
segunda sílaba.
Ejemplos: Refer: Referred Admit: Admitted
3. Si el acento no recae sobre la vocal de la última sílaba, esta no se duplica.
Ejemplos: Offer: Offered Open: opened
4. Los verbos que finalizan en L duplican la L.
Ejemplos: Travel: Travelled Cancel: Cancelled
