Existen una infinidad de verbos irregulares, los más importantes son ser/estar, tener y hacer ( to
be, to have, to do).
BORIS
La forma negativa del simple past se obtiene añadiendo didn’t (informal) o did not (formal) antes
del verbo.
La excepción es el verbo ser/estar que se forma añadiendo n’t (informal) o not (formal)
a was o were.
I didn’t say anything about Los Angeles. I said something about certain people. How
can you hate a whole city. It doesn’t make sense.
No dije nada sobre Los Angeles. Dije algo acerca de algunas personas. Cómo se
puede odiar una ciudad entera. No tiene sentido.
Shaquille O’Neal
Despite huge gains, too many of you remain homeless, poor and illiterate. The
struggle did not end five years ago.
A pesar de los grandes triunfos, muchos de ustedes siguen sin hogar, pobres e
iletrados. La batalla no termino cinco años atrás.
FORMA INTERROGATIVA DEL SIMPLE PAST TENSE
La forma interrogativa del Simple Past se forma con
did + sujeto + verbo.
A excepción del verbo ser/estar que se forma:
were + sujeto
o, para la 3° singular…
was + sujeto .
JUAN
Of course, you can also have the negative version, which is formed "did not" + "[verb in base
form]":
The Martians did not land near the aqueduct.
(We could have used didn't instead of did not.)
The burglar did not consider using the fire escape.
And the question versions:
The simple past tense is often seen with a time expression explaining when the activity took place
or how long it lasted.
("On Tuesday last week" tells you when it happened. It's called an adverbial phrase of time.
Other examples are"Yesterday," "Last year," "Before breakfast,". They are really common.
When any adverb appears at the front of a sentence, it is usual to follow it with a comma. A
comma is not usually used when the adverbial phrase appears at the back of a sentence.
NB: This is not a strict rule. Use a comma if it helps your reader.)
