ABSTRACT
IGRP is a protocol belonging to Cisco, used for the exchange of information between routers. It is responsible
for finding the best shipping path using the vector-distance metric algorithm. In such a way that the following
main characteristics such as: bandwidth, delay, load and reliability are considered to create a composite
metric.
By default, a broadcast of routing updates is sent every 90 seconds. This protocol determines the best route
through a network by examining the bandwidth and delay of the routers. IGRP is a classed protocol, which
means that netmasks cannot be tampered with (it uses the default masks of each Class), It can be deployed
in large networks where it adapts to changes within the network. This is known as scalability. Today IGRP is
not used, instead an improved version EIGRP is used.
