1. SCIENCE

Every branch of science seeks to study or evaluate

something. Scientists are motivated to Discover (descubrir)
new ideas but it’s not easy, it’s a time-consuming process in
the lab. When you perfect something, it’s really worth the
effort and the recognition.
➢ Cada rama de la ciencia busca estudiar o evaluar algo. Los
científicos están motivados para descubrir nuevas ideas,
pero no es fácil, es un proceso que lleva mucho tiempo en
el laboratorio. Cuando perfeccionas algo, realmente vale la
pena el esfuerzo y el reconocimiento.
2. WORKING IN A LAB:

● Some glass materials can not stand on their own.

➢ Algunos materiales de vidrio no pueden sostenerse por sí
mismos.
 Se debe mantener los tubos de ensayo y las buretas en sus
respectivos lugares. De lo contrario, podrían caerse y rodar.
● The Pasteur pipette and graduated pipette are used to
transfer liquids ( líquidos). Do not store the contents in
these containers for long periods of time.
➢ La pipeta Pasteur y la pipeta graduada se utilizan para
transferir líquidos. No almacene el contenido en estos
recipientes durante largos períodos de tiempo.

• Avoid spills(derrames). Look carefully inside containers

like test tubes. Use a funnel when appropriate.
➢ Evitar los derrames. Mirar cuidadosamente dentro de los
contenedores como tubos de ensayo. Utilice un embudo
cuando sea apropiado.

• Use the material for its designated purpose. Only use the
flask for specific volumes and temperatures. Otherwise, use a
Beaker (vaso precipitado) or Erlenmeyer instead.

3. ABOUT SECURITY

● Protect the skin: Many substances in the laboratory

are dangerous(peligrosas) to the skin. Never touch
anything with bare hands. Use rods or spatula to
handle materials. Grind substances with mortar and
pylon.
➢ Protege la piel: Muchas sustancias en el laboratorio
son peligrosas para la piel. Nunca toque nada con las
manos desnudas. Use varillas o espátula para
manipular los materiales. Moler las sustancias con
mortero y pilón.

● Wash hands thoroughly after contact with chemicals

(químicos) Use soap and water, not organic solvents.
➢ Lávese bien las manos después del contacto con
los productos químicos. Use agua y jabón, no
disolventes orgánicos.

● Working with certain kinds of chemicals requires

laboratories must always be kept clean (limpio) and
tidy.
➢ Trabajar con ciertos tipos de químicos requiere
que los laboratorios deben mantenerse siempre
limpios y ordenados.
● Products and materials should always be checked
before use, using only those that are guaranteed to be in
good condition.
➢ Los productos y materiales siempre deben ser
revisados antes de su uso, usando sólo aquellos que
están garantizados de estar en buenas condiciones.
● Do not put pipettes or spatulas in the reagent bottles
that are not completely clean and dry.
➢ No poner pipetas o espátulas en los frascos de
reactivos que no estén completamente limpios y
secos.
● When any chemical is poured, action must be taken
quickly, but without precipitation.
➢ Cuando se vierte cualquier producto químico, se debe
actuar rápidamente, pero sin precipitaciones.

the teacher.

● You should avoid wearing contact lenses, especially if
you do not use safety glasses. It is preferable to use
prescription safety glasses or glasses that allow you to
wearthe prescription glasses underneath them.

no se emplean gafas de seguridad de manera
obligatoria. Es preferible el uso de gafas de seguridad
graduadas o que permitan llevar las gafas graduadas
debajo de ellas.
