Sub j ect : Availability of a Feather Assist S p r i n g Assembly

Effectivity: All Hartzell model HC-E( ]Y( )-Z[ ) counterweighted
propellers installed on a l l model aircraft,
Discuss ion: These propellers have a system in which b l a d e
counterweights and air pressure i n the cylinder a r e
utilized to increase pitch and feather the propeller,
opposed by governor regulated oil pressure to reduce
pitch.
To avoid the possibility of being unable to feather
the propeller when the propeller air charge i s at
zero, a spring is now b e i n g incorporated in the
propeller hub extension, T h i s spring will produce
s u f f i c i e n t f o r c e t o operate t h e propeller in normal
flight conditions, and also produce sufficient force
to feather t h e propeller. The air charge will be
reduced by the equivalent amount of s p r i n g force.

charge i n the propeller are given in Hartzell Service
Instructions No. 99 and Hartze 11 Propeller Owner's
Manual No. 11s-C and Overhaul Manual No. 117-( ) ,
It is recommended t h a t the f e a t h e r a s s i s t spring
assembly k i t be installed a t the next most
convenient time, no later t h a n the 1000 hour over-
haul time period. The feather a s s i s t spring must
be installed in - both propellers by a qualified
propeller repair station to assure proper assembly.

installation procedure,
Following the installation of the feather a s s i s t
s p r i n g assembly, the propeller model will change
to HC-E[ )Y( ] - 2 [ )T. The letter "T'' designates
the installation of this assembly, and it is
considered a minor change n o t affecting propeller
certification,
