tense

past
A SHORT DEFINITION…
The simple past is one of these verb tenses, present in different languages. The
mention of the past refers to actions that have already been carried out previously
(that is, that have already been completed)

CHARACTERISTICS:
 It´s an action that happens in the past and finishes in the past
 Verbs in past – regular and irregular verbs
 For regular verbs, just put "ed" at the end of the verb but irregular verbs change
their spelling
 “Did” as an auxiliary for questions “Didn´t” as an auxiliary to deny sentences
 It´s pretty important to make clear that after the auxiliary “did” (question) or
“didn´t” (denay sentences) the verb will always go in simple form (simple
present)
 When we talk about to be in past: To be: was- were

Here some examples:

LET´S TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS…
Hi everyone!
I´m teacher Cristian, if you didn´t
understand so good, don´t worry
about it, let me explain one more time

 It´s an action that happens in the past and finishes in the past
(Acción que pasa en el pasado y termina en el pasado)
 Verbs in past – regular and irregular verbs
(Los verbos van en pasado: verbos regulares e irregulares)
 For regular verbs, just put "ed" at the end of the verb but irregular verbs
change their spelling
(para los verbos regulares solo hay que poner “ed” al final del verbo,
pero los irregulares cambian su escritura)
 “Did” as an auxiliary for questions “Didn´t” as an auxiliary to deny
sentences
(“Did”como auxiliar de pregunta – “didn´t” como auxiliar de
negación)
 It´s pretty important to make clear that after the auxiliary “did” (question) or
“didn´t” (denay sentences) the verb will always go in simple form (simple
present)
(Es muy importante dejar claro, que despues del auxiliar “did”
(pregunta) o “didn´t ” (negación) el verbo siempre irá en forma
simple)
 When we talk about “to be” in past: To be: was- were
(Cuando hablamos del “verbo ser o estar” en pasado: “was – were”)
ACTIVITY 1
UNDERLINE THE VERBS IN PAST AND WRITE THEM DOWN

Sarah’s love story

One Saturday, Sarah woke up early. She had breakfast with her family, she had a
quick shower, and left home to work.
On her way to the office, a handsome man asked her if she knew where the closest
bank was. She told him where it was. The man asked her if she could go with him to
the bank and to have a cup of coffee afterwards. She said yes.
Sarah and the man had coffee. After that, they went to the cinema and then to a disco.
They danced for 3 hours. Sarah didn’t ask the man’s name, she didn’t add him on
Facebook or Whatsapp. At midnight, the man said he had to go to the bathroom, but
he didn’t come back.
Sarah fell in love with the man; she wanted the man to come back. She waited for him
for 5 years, but he didn’t come back. Sarah had lost all hope about love. She prayed to
God frequently.
One day, Sarah was waiting in line in the bank when a man came up to her and asked
her what time it was. His voice sounded familiar, it was the same man; his name was
Joseph.
They married 8 months later and had 2 beautiful daughters.
