Resumen
Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal fuente de información primaria para determinar la
frecuencia de muertes por accidentes de tránsito en vehículo de motor en adultos jóvenes del
Hospital Docente Universitario Dr. Darío Contreras enero-marzo 2020. La población fue de 503
pacientes, donde la muestra escogida fue de 51 pacientes. Se utilizó la técnica de ficha de
recolección de datos, en base a las actas de defunciones. El sexo más afectado fue el masculino
con un 100 por ciento. El rango de edad de los fallecidos estaba comprendido entre 18-24 años
con un 33.3 por ciento. La escolaridad fue de estudiantes con un 19.4 por ciento. La nacionalidad
más frecuente fue de dominicanos con un 94.5 por ciento. Un 97.22 por ciento recibieron atención
médica antes de fallecer. El tipo de vehículo involucrado en el accidente fue no especificado con
un 61 por ciento. La Causa de muerte más frecuente fue el trauma craneoencefálico con un 61.1
por ciento.

Abstract
A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out as a primary source of information to
determine the frequency of deaths from motor vehicle traffic accidents in young adults at the Dr.
Darío Contreras Teaching Hospital, January-March 2020. The population consisted of 503
patients, where the sample chosen was 51 patients. The data collection sheet technique was
used, based on the death certificates. The sex most affected was the male with 100 percent. The
age range of the deceased was between 18-24 years with 33.3 percent. The schooling was of
students with 19.4 percent. The most frequent nationality was of Dominicans with 94.5 percent.
97.22 percent received medical attention before dying. The type of vehicle involved in the accident
was unspecified with 61 percent. The most predominant cause of death was head trauma with
61.1 percent.
