La obra de Shakespeare consistió principalmente en teatro y poesía, y se considera

Y aunque fue reconocido y venerado en vida, su mayor éxito y popularización

de Christopher Marlowe, o a muchos otros.

sumo un “hombre de paja” que asumía la autoría de las piezas, pero que éstas eran
de origen grupal, o de algún otro dramaturgo que prefería no meterse en problemas
con la corte

Se ha opinado mucho sobre la vida personal del autor y sobre su presunta
homosexualidad,especulación que encuentra su base principal en una originalísima
colección de sonetos que fue publicada, al parecer, sin su consentimiento. También
se ha sospechado la existencia de alguna o algún amante que hiciera desgraciado su
matrimonio, ya que la que fue su mujer y madre de sus tres hijos era bastante mayor
que él y se encontraba embarazada antes de la boda. Esta sospecha se asienta en una
famosa cita de su testamento: «Le dejo mi segunda mejor cama»
