Introduction
The main drawback of inhalation as a form of administering
medication is patients’ difficulty of using the devices correctly.1–3
Their inappropriate use contributes to poor control of both
asthma4
and COPD.5 Therefore, patients should be trained in their proper
use. However, many recent studies have shown that health pro-
fessionals’ knowledge on the theoretical and practical aspects of
inhalation therapy is insufficient.6,7 In an effort to alleviate these

However, and considering the application of that inhaled ther- apy
in the treatment of asthma, which this document summarises,
recently two significant clinical practice guidelines for asthma, one
international (GINA, 2015)10 and other national (GEMA 4.0, also
published in 2015),11 have updated their statements with relevant
news.
