Abstract: The present work depicts, without hope of exhaustiveness, some notes that
may allow to develope the study of the reception of Ludvig Wittgensteins’ thinking in 1
George Steiner’s critical work. Begginnig with an introduction to the latent
theological implications of the main problems that we are going to tackle, we outline,
always starting from Steiner, the connection between the Tractatus and the “linguistic
change”, the discussion about the public and the private language in the Philosophical
Investigations and the potential poetic meaning of the Wittgenstein’s work. Finally,
we set out briefly the link between the Wittgwnstein’s work and the Jewish vocation,
and we formulate some of the Steiner’s criticism at the Viennese thinker, calling their
licitness into question.
