The early history of Brittany (France) La historia temprana de Bretaña (Francia)

We have archaeological evidence that people were
living in Brittany, in north-western France, about
12,000 years ago. This period is known as prehistory,
and there are no written records which go back this
far, although the stone circles and monuments that
the people built are still standing today in places like
Carnac. The population must have been very small in
these prehistoric times. Historians have no precise
figures, but there were certainly far fewer
inhabitants than there are today. They belonged to
different Celtic tribes and they are the ancestors of
modern French people. They survived by hunting
animals and gathering berries and fruit in the wild.

About 4000 years ago people in Brittany began to
settle down rather than constantly moving around,
and farming techniques improved. People began to
grow crops and keep animals to provide meat wool
and milk. They also made tools out of iron, and this
period is known as the Iron Age. The people of this
time had quite sophisticated beliefs and a strong
tradition of telling stories orally, but they left no
trace of a written language behind.
Hace unos 4000 años, la gente en Bretaña comenzó a
establecerse en lugar de moverse constantemente, y las
técnicas agrícolas mejoraron. La gente comenzó a
cultivar y mantener animales para proporcionar carne,
