DESEMPEÑO: Utiliza un vocabulario apropiado para expresar ideas con claridad sobre
temas del currículo de interés.

CONTEXTUALIZACIÓN: El auxiliar modal could es un verbo modal que se utiliza


para expresar permiso, posibilidad o para hacer sugerencias en presente. También
se utiliza para hablar de una habilidad del pasado, es decir la versión en pasado del
modal ‘can’. Siempre vamos a encontrarlo seguido de un verbo y podemos utilizarlo
también en forma negativa, como couldn’t. COULD/COULDN'T Could es el pasado
de can y utilizamos could and couldn't para expresar lo que éramos o no éramos
capaces de hacer en el pasado. Could is the past of can and we use could and
couldn't to express what we were or weren't capable to do in the past.

EXAMPLE: LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE AND USE

Examples
I could swim when I was four.
I couldn’t ride a bike when I was three.
He could walk when he was two.

Remember!
We use ‘could’ and ‘couldn’t’ to talk about our abilities in the past.
She could play chess when she was seven.
He could read when he was five.
I couldn’t run when I was a baby.
