GRAMMAR: Past Continous vrs. Simple Past

In the sentences, we are going to use to types of sentences: Past continuous and
Simple past.

The past continuous is formed by using the past of the verb to Be.
The past of Be is : WAS or WERE.

 I was = yo estaba
 He was = El estaba
 She was = Ella estaba
 It was = Éste estaba
 You were = usted estaba
 They were = Ellos / ellas estaban
 We were = Nosotros / nosotras estabamos.
For example:
 I was listening to music. = Yo estaba escuchando música

 He was watching t.v. = él estaba viendo television.

 You were sleeping = Usted estaba durmiendo.

Cómo usar las dos oraciones en un solo párrafo:

Se utiliza cuando recordamos algo que estábamos realizando en el pasado y esa
actividad fue interrumpida por algo mas. Como en el texto que leímos
anteriormente acerca de cuando la electricidad dejó de funcionar.

I was cooking pasta when everything went dark.

Yo estaba cocinando pasta cuando todo se puso obscuro

While my friends and I were watching a movie at home the lights went out.

Mientras mis amigos y yo estábamos viendo una película en casa las luces
se apagaron

My mother was cutting the vegetables when she cut her hand.

Mi mamá estaba cortando verduras cuando se cortó su mano

I was walking by the park when I met my best friend

Yo estaba caminando por el parque cuando me encontré a mi mejor amigo.

La oración de color azul representa el pasado continuo, donde se usa el verbo en

pasado participio o con ING, y el pasado simple lo representan las letras en color
negro.

Ambos temas ya trabajados anteriormente, pero hoy vemos como podemos usar
las dos clases de oraciones al hablar de un evento en el pasado.

HOMEWORK: TO WRITE 10 SENTENCES IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH USING PAST CONTINUOUS

AND SIMPLE PAST AT THE SAME TIME, LIKE THE PREVIOUS EXAMPLES.
