[8] CH1 (X).

1. Pulse el interruptor I/O [6].
selector AC/GND/DC [10] o [18] a DC.

(fig. 7a).

5. APLICACIONES
Tensiones pico a pico.

20 MHz OSCILLOSCOPE
OD-512
1. GENERAL
1.1 Description
The OD-512 is sturdy, easy to operate and exhibits high operational
reliability. This is a portable-type, dual-channel oscilloscope, its bandwidth of DC
is up to 20 MHz, and its maximum sensitivity is 1 mV/DIV. The time base provides
P
a maximum sweep time of 0.2 s/DIV. The sweep speed becomes 100 ns/DIV
after magnifying 10 times. The oscilloscope uses a 6-inch rectangular type
cathode-ray tube with red internal graticule.
3) Alternate triggering:
Even with an observation of two different frequency waveforms, each waveform
can be triggered stably.
4) TV sync triggering:
The oscilloscope has a sync separator circuit for TV-V and TV-H signals triggering.
5) CH1 Output:
CH1 output located on rear panel can be applied to frequency counter or other
instruments.
6) Z-Axis Input:
Beam intensity modulation capability permits time or frequency markers to be
added. Trace blank with positive signal, TTL compatible.
7) X-Y operation:
In this mode of operation CH1 can be applied as a horizontal deflection (X-axis)
while CH2 provides vertical deflection (Y-axis).

4.2 Start Up
Connect power cord to power input connector [36], then connect it to an AC line
outlet suitable for the instrument previously set AC line voltage, and then continues as
follows:
1. Press the I/O switch [6]. The POWER [5] led will be on. In about 20 seconds, a
trace will appear on the CRT screen. If no trace appears in about 60 seconds, check the
switch and control setting (previous paragraphs).
2. Adjust the trace to an appropriate brightness and image with INTEN [2] and
FOCUS [3] control knob respectively.
WARNING
Ageing-resistance material has been used in the CRT. In any case, the
screen can be damaged if a spot or a trace extremely bright is set on it
for a long time. So if an intense brightness is needed for a measurement
make sure to decrease intensity (INTEN) just after the measurement is
performed. You should get used to decrease brightness when your not
going to observe the oscilloscope for a while too.
3. Align the trace with the horizontal central line of the graticule by adjusting the
CH1 POSITION [11] control knob.
4. Adjust the POSITION [32] control knob to align the left end of the trace with
the graticule left end line.
06/2003 Page 15
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
Preadjust the instrument until a trace just as indicated in the previous paragraph is
obtained.
Align the trace with the horizontal central line of the graticule by adjusting the CH1
POSITION [11] control knob.
If the trace is not parallel to the central line, adjust the TRACE ROTATION [4]
potentiometer by means of a suitable screwdriver until the trace becomes parallel.
Connect a probe (x10) to the CH1 [8] input terminal and connect the probe tip to the
CAL 2 Vpp [1] terminal. On the CRT screen should be displayed a square waveform with
four divisions amplitude (4 x 0.5 V/DIV = 2 Vpp).
Remove the probe from CAL 2 Vpp [1] terminal. Set switch V-MODE [14] to CH2
position and repeat the process for CH2, each one with its own probe.
The attenuator (ATT) balance of the vertical axis can be made easily.
1. Set the input coupling switches of CH1 [10] and CH2 [18] to GND and set the
TRIG MODE [25] to AUTO. Then position the base line to the centre.
Page 16 06/2003
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
Single trace and base time operation and internal triggering is the most basic
operating mode of the OD-512. Select this mode when there is only one signal to be
observed, without the inconvenience of other traces on the CRT screen. Due it is a two
channel oscilloscope, any of these two channels can be selected. CH1 is provided with and
output terminal: use the CH1 output terminal on the rear panel to measure signal frequency
using a frequency counter while observing waveform. CH2 have a switch that inverts
polarity, although it adds flexibility, it has no use when operating in single trace mode.
1. Set the following controls of the instrument as shown below. Observe the
selected triggering source (CH1 or CH2 SOURCE) corresponds to the selected channel
(CH1 or CH2 V MODE).
3. Connect the signal to be observed to the appropriate input terminal CH1 [8] or
CH2 [20] and adjust the appropriate VOLTS/DIV selector [7] or [22] so that signal
waveform is completely displayed on the screen.
WARNING
Do not apply signal higher than 300 V (DC + AC peak)
4. Set TIME/DIV [29] so that the appropriate number of signal cycles appears on
screen. For some measurements the appropriate number of cycles is only two or 3 cycles;
for other measurements the appropriate number of cycles is 50-100 (displayed as a band).
If necessary, adjust Trigger LEVEL [28] control for a stable display of the signal.
5. If the signal is so weak that even in the 5 mV position of the VOLTS/DIV [7] or
[22] selector the trace is not high enough for triggering or for the image to be useful, pull out
the button of the VAR PULL x5 MAG [9] or [21] control. This provides a sensitivity of
2 mV/DIV when VOLTS/DIV [7] or [22] is set to 10 mV and of 1 mV/DIV when it is set
to 5 mV. In any case, when this mode is selected, the bandwidth is reduced to 7 MHz, and
the trace noise can be considerable.
06/2003 Page 17
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
P
6. If the frequency of signal is so high that even in the 0.2 s position of the
TIME/DIV [29] selector appears too many cycles on screen, push the x10 MAG [31] key.
P
This increases the effective sweep speed 10 times, so 0.2 s/DIV position now corres-
P
ponds to 20 ns/DIV, 0.5 s position corresponds to 50 ns/DIV, etc. 0.2 and 0.5 s x 10 P
P
positions are not calibrated, whereas 1 s and lower positions are calibrated.
7. If the frequency of the signal is very low or its zero (DC signal), so the AC
coupling attenuates or distorts the signal, set AC/GND/DC [10] or [18] selector to DC.
Trigger MODE [25] switch should be set to NORM again if the frequency of the
signal is lower than 25 Hz, and possibly readjust the Trigger LEVEL [28] control.
Set VERT MODE [14] selector to the DUAL position so the channel 2 signal is
displayed too. The operation is identical to the one described in the section 4.3.1 with the
following exceptions:
1. Sweep mode can be set to ALT (alternate) or CHOP by means of the ALT
CHOP [12] control. ALT mode is useful when measuring signals with a quite high frequency
(TIME/DIV [29] selector set to 0.2 ms/DIV or faster). CHOP mode is useful for signals with a
quite low frequency (TIME/DIV [29] selector set to 0.5 ms or slower), in this mode the
signals are chopped and are displayed at a frequency of 250 KHz.
2. If both channels displays signals with the same frequency, select by means of
the Trigger SOURCE [23] the channel with the waveform with the sharpest slope. If the
signals do not have the same frequency but they are harmonics, use the channel with the
lower frequency signal for triggering. Bear in mind too that if the channel used for triggering
is disconnected, the image will not be stable.
Add and subtraction operations are two types of dual-channel operation in which
the two signals are combined to display a unique trace. In ADD operation the resultant trace
displays the algebraic sum of the CH1 and CH2 signals. In subtraction operation the
resultant trace displays the algebraic difference of CH1 and CH2 signals.
2. Make sure that VOLTS/DIV [7] and [22] selectors are set to the same position
and that VARIABLE [9] and [21] are set to CAL position. If signal levels are very different,
set both VOLTS/DIV selectors to the position that completely displays on screen the signal
with the highest amplitude.
3. Use the channel with the highest amplitude signal for triggering.
4. Set MODE [14] selector to ADD position. This way the unique resultant trace will
be the algebraic sum of the CH1 and CH2 signals. POSITION [11] or [19] can be used
to positioning the resultant trace.
Page 18 06/2003
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
NOTE
If the input signals are in phase, the amplitude of the resultant trace will be
the arithmetic sum of the individual traces (for ex. 4.2 div + 1.2 div = 5.4 div).
If the phase difference of the input signals is 180º, the resultant amplitude is
the arithmetic difference (fore ex. 4.2 div – 1.2 div = 3.0 div).
5. If the peak-peak amplitude of the resultant trace is very small, turn both
VOLTS/DIV [7] and [22] selectors to increase the height of the displayed trace. Make sure
that both selectors are set to the same position.
To obtain the subtraction, proceed as before but now push the CH2 INV [16] key.
The resultant trace will be the algebraic difference of the CH1 and CH2 signals. Now, if the
input signals are in phase, the resultant trace will be the arithmetic difference of the
individual traces (for ex. 4.2 div – 1.2 div = 3.0 div). If the input signals have a phase
difference of 180 º, the resultant trace amplitude will be the arithmetic sum of the individual
traces (for ex. 4.2 div + 1.2 div = 5.4 div).
When NORM triggering mode is selected, the CRT beam does not sweep
horizontally the screen until the selected triggering signal crosses the threshold defined by
means of the TRIG LEVEL [28] control. Nevertheless, it is not suitable to use this triggering
mode as default because, if no signal is present or if controls are not properly set, no trace
will be displayed on CRT screen. A lot of time can be spent to find out that this absence of
traces is due to an incorrect setting of the Vertical POSITIONING [11] or [19] or VOLT/DIV
[7] or [22] selector.
Trigger AUTO mode solves this problem provoking the time base to free runs
without a trigger signal. This generates a single horizontal line when no signal is present
and a vertical deflection display without triggering, when exists a vertical signal but
triggering control is misplaced. So, this way, it can be automatically found out what is
wrong. The only problem of the AUTO mode is that signal with a frequency lower than
25 Hz can not certainly trigger the time base, nor complex signals of any frequency,
possibly. So, usually Trigger MODE [25] selector is set to AUTO position, but setting it to
NORM position if any signal (especially if its frequency is lower than 25 Hz) can not
displayed as a stable waveform.
The TV-V and TV-H positions of the Trigger MODE separate de TV synchronism
signal so a clear triggering signal, both vertical and horizontal, can be extracted from the
composite video signal (fig. 7a). Setting the Trigger MODE selector to TV-V permits
selection of vertical sync pulses for sweep triggering. Vertical sync pulses are selected as
trigger to permit viewing of vertical fields and frames of video. Setting the Trigger MODE
selector to TV-H position permits selection of horizontal sync pulses for sweep triggering
when viewing composite video waveforms. Horizontal sync pulses are selected as trigger to
permit viewing of horizontal lines of video. This oscilloscope synchronises with only (-)
negative polarity, that is, the sync pulses are negative and the video is positive (figure 7d).
06/2003 Page 19
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
The displayed signal itself or a trigger signal, which has a time relationship with the
displayed signal is required to be applied to the trigger circuit to display a stationary signal
on the CRT screen. The SOURCE [23] switch is used for selecting these trigger sources.
CH2: The signal applied to the vertical input terminal is branched off away from
the preamplifier and is fed to the trigger circuit through the VERT MODE
switch. Since the trigger signal is the measured signal itself, a stable
waveform can be readily displayed on the CRT screen. When in the DUAL
or ADD operation, the selected signal through the SOURCE switch is used
as a trigger source signal
LINE: The AC power line frequency is used as the triggering signal This method
is effective when the measured signal has a relationship with the AC line
frequency, especially for measurements of low level AC noise of audio
equipment, thyristor circuits, etc.
Page 20 06/2003
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
EXT: The sweep is triggered by an external signal applied to the external trigger
input terminal. An external signal which has a periodic relationship with the
measured signal is used. Because the measured signal is not used as the
triggering signal, the waveforms can be displayed more independent than
the measured signal
LEVEL [28] controls allows to adjust the start of the sweep to almost any desired
point on a waveform. The effect of the LEVEL control over the trace is shown in figure 6c.
Marks + and – of this control panel refers to the cross point or zero of the waveform and to
the more positive (+) and negative (-) points than this one. If the trigger slope is very steep,
as in square waves or digital pulses, the will be no apparent change in the displayed trace
until LEVEL control is rotated past the most positive or negative point, in which case the
display will free run (AUTO sweep mode) or disappear completely (NORM sweep mode).
Try to trigger at the mid point of slow-rise waveforms (as sine and triangular waveforms)
since these are usually cleanest spots on such waveforms.
The SLOPE [26] switch selects the slope (polarity) triggering signal (figure 6)). That
is to say when the SLOPE [26] switch is set to (+) position (up), the sweep is developed
from the trigger source waveform as it crosses the threshold level in a positive-going
direction. When it is set to (-) position (down), a sweep trigger is developed from the trigger
source waveform as it crosses the threshold level in negative-going direction. Always select
the steepest and the most stable slope or edge. For example, small changes in the
amplitude of the sawtooth shown in figure 6a will cause jittering (distortion) if the time base
is triggered on the positive (ramp) slope, but have no effect if triggering occurs on the
negative slope (a fast-fall edge). In the example shown in figure 6b, both leading and tailing
edges are very steep trace to jitter, making observation difficult. Triggering from the stable
leading edge (+slope) yields a trace that has only the tailing-edge jitter of the original signal.
If you are ever in doubt, or have an unsatisfactory display, try both slopes to find the best
way.
06/2003 Page 21
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
Figure 6.- Functions of TRIG LEVEL [28] control and SLOPE [26] switch
TRIG ALT [27] switch is used to select alternate triggering and alternate display
when the DUAL-trace VERT MODE is selected (the switch has effect in the CH1, CH2, or
ADD modes). In the alternate triggering mode (when select dual-trace operation), the
trigger source alternates between CH1 and CH2 with each sweep. This is convenient for
checking amplitudes, wave-shape, or waveform period measurements, and even permits
simultaneously observing two waveforms which are not related to frequency or period.
However, this setting is not suitable for phase or timing comparison measurements. For
such measurements, both traces must be triggered by the same sync signal.
Page 22 06/2003
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
The internal timebase of the OD-512 are not utilised in X-Y operation; deflection in
both the vertical and horizontal directions is via external signals. Vertical channel 1 serves
as the X-axis (horizontal) signal processor, so horizontal and vertical axis have identical
control facilities.
All of the V MODE, and trigger switches, as well as there associated controls and
connectors, are inoperative in the X-Y mode.
1. Set the TIME/IDV [29] control to the X-Y position (fully clockwise).
CAUTION
Reduce the trace intensity, lest the undeflected spot damage the CRT
phosphor.
2. Apply the vertical signal to the CH2 or Y IN connector, and the horizontal signal
to the CH1 or X IN [8] connector. Once the trace is deflected, restore normal brightness.
3. Adjust X the trace position vertically (Y-axis) with the CH2 Vertical POSITION
control [19]. Adjust the trace position horizontally (X-axis) with the Horizontal POSITION
[32] control. The CH1 Vertical POSITION [11] control has no effect during X-Y operation.
4. Adjust the trace height with the CH2 VOLTS/DIV [22] switch and trace width with
the CH1 VOLTS/DIV [7] switch. The x5MAG [9] and [21] switches on the VARIABLE
controls can be used if greater is necessary.
5. Vertical (Y-axis) signal may be inverted setting CH2 INV [16] switch.

5. MEASUREMENT APPLICATIONS
The modern triggered sweep oscilloscope has two major measurement functions.
The first of these is amplitude. The oscilloscope has an advantage over most other forms of
amplitude measurement in that complex as well as simply waveforms can be totally
characterised (i.e. complete voltage information is available)
Oscilloscope voltage measurements generally fall into one of two types: peak to
peak or instantaneous. Peak to peak (p-p) measurement simply notes the total amplitude
between extremes without regard to polarity reference. Instantaneous voltage
measurement indicates the exact voltage from each every point on the waveform to a
ground reference. When making either type of measurements, make sure that the
VARIABLE controls are click-stopped fully clockwise.
1. Set up the oscilloscope for the vertical mode operation proceeding as indicated
in paragraph 4.3.
2. Adjust the TIME/DIV [29] switch for two or three cycles of waveform, and set the
VOLTS/DIV switch [77] or [22] for the largest-possible totally-on-screen display.
3. Use the appropriate vertical POSITION control [11] or [19] to position the
negative signal peaks on the nearest horizontal graticule line below the signal peaks (fig. 9).
4. Use the horizontal POSITION control [32] to position one of the positive peaks
on the central vertical graticule line. This line has additional calibration marks equal to 0.2
major division each.
5. Count the number of divisions from the graticule line touching the negative signal
peak to the intersection of the positive signal peak with the central vertical graticule line.
Multiply this number by the VOLTS/DIV switch setting to get the peak-to peak voltage of the
waveform. For example, if the VOLTS/DIV switch were set to 2 V, the waveform shown in
figure 9 would be 8.0 Vp-p (4.0 DIV x 2 V).
7. If measuring a sine wave below 100 Hz, or a rectangular wave below 1000 Hz,
flip the AG/GND/DC switch to DC.

1. Set up the oscilloscope for the vertical mode operation proceeding as indicated
in paragraph 4.3.
2. Adjust the TIME/DIV switch [29] for one complete cycle of waveform, an set the
VOLTS/DIV switch for the trace amplitude of 4 to 6 division (see figure 8).
4. Use the appropriate vertical POSITON control [11] or [19] to set the trace on the
central horizontal graticule line. However, if you know the signal voltage is wholly positive
use the bottom most graticule line. If you know the signal voltage is wholly negative use the
top most graticule line. This line is the so called ground-reference line.
NOTE:
Vertical POSITION control setting can not be changed until the measurement
ends.
5. Flip the AC/GND/DC switch [10] to DC. The polarity of all points above the
ground reference line is positive; all points below the ground-reference line are negative.
NOTE:
Make certain the waveform is not riding on a high-amplitude DC voltage wave
before flipping the AC/GND/DC switch.
6. Use the Horizontal POSITION control [32] to position any point of interest on the central
vertical graticule line. This line has additional calibration marks equal to 0.2 major division
each. The voltage relative to ground at any point selected is equal to the number of division
from that point to the ground reference line multiplied by the VOLTS/DIV setting. In the
example used for figure 10, the voltage for a 0.5 V/DIV scale is 2.5 V (5.0 DIV x 5 V).
Basic Technique. The basic technique for measuring time interval is described in
the following steps. This same technique applies to the specific procedures and variations
that follow.
2. Set TIME/DIV [29] switch so the desired interval appears on the screen as large
as possible. Make sure SWP:VAR control [30] is at CAL position (fully clockwise). If it is
not, any measured value may be incorrect.
3. Use the Vertical POSITION control [11] or [19] to position the trace so the central
horizontal graticule line passes through the points on the waveform between which you
want to make the measurement.
06/2003 Page 27
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
4. Use Horizontal POSITION control [32] to set the left-most measurement point on
a nearly vertical graticule line.
5. Count the number of horizontal divisions between the step 4 graticule line and
the second measurement point. Measure to tenth of a major division. Note that each minor
division on the central horizontal graticule line is 0.2 major division.
6. To determine the time interval between the two measurement points, multiply the
number of horizontal divisions counted in step 5 by the setting of the TIME/DIV switch. If the
x10 MAG [31] is set to x10 (x10 magnification), be certain to divide the TIME/DIV switch
setting by 10.
Period, pulse width, and duty cycle. The basic technique in the preceding
paragraph can be used to determine pulse parameters such as period, pulse width, duty
cycle etc.
The period of a pulse or any other waveform is the time it takes for one full cycle of
the signal. In figure 9a, the distance between points (A) and (C) represents one cycle; the
time interval of this distance is the period. The time scale for the CRT display of figure 9 is
10 ms/DIV, so the period is 70 milliseconds in this example.
Pulse width is 15 milliseconds. However, 1.5 divisions is a rather small distance for
accurate measurements, so it is advisable to use a faster sweep speed for this particular
measurement. Increasing the sweep to 2 ms/DIV as in figure 9b gives a large display,
allowing more accurate measurement.
An alternative technique useful when pulse width is smaller than a division consists
of pulling x10 MAG button [31] to obtain a magnification x10, and repositioning the pulse on
the screen with the POSITION control [32]. In some applications the pulse width is
called offeime. Then the distance between points (B) and (C) is then called offeime. This
can be measured in the same manner as pulse width.
When pulse width and period are known, duty cycle can be calculated. Duty cycle is
the percentage of the period (or total on and off times) represented by the pulse width (on
time), that the pulse is at its high level.
PW(100) A → B(100)
Duty cycle (%) = =
Period A→C

INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
Rise time is the time for the leading edge of a pulse to rise from 10% to 90% of the
total pulse amplitude.
Fall time is the time required for the trailing edge of a pulse to drop from 90% of
total pulse amplitude to 10%. Rise time and fall time, which may be collectively called
transition time, are measured in essentially the same manner.
1. Connect the pulse to be measured to CH1 [8] and set the AC/GND/DC switch
[10] to AC.
2. Adjust the TIME/DIV selector [29] to display about two cycles of the pulse. Make
certain the x 10 MAG [31] control is not pulled.
3. Centre the pulse vertically with the CH1 Vertical POSITION control [11]
4. Adjust the CH1 VOLTS/DIV switch [9] to make the positive pulse peak exceed
the 100% graticule line, and the negative pulse peak exceed the 0% line. Then rotate the
VARIABLE control [9] clockwise until the positive and negative pulse peaks rest exactly on
the 100% and 0% graticule lines (figure 10).
5. Use the horizontal POSITION control [32] to shift the trace so the leading
edge passes through the intersection of the 10% and central vertical line.
6. If the rise time slow compared to the period, no further control manipulations are
necessary. If the rise time is fast (leading edge almost vertical) , set x10 MAG control [31]
to x10 MAG position and reposition the trace as in step 5.
7. Count the number of horizontal divisions between the central vertical line (10%
point) and the intersection of the trace with the 90% line.
8. Multiply the number of divisions counted in step 7 by the setting of the TIME/DIV
switch [29] to find the measured rise time. If x10 magnification is used, divide the TIME/DIV
setting by 10. For example, if the time base setting in figure 10 was 1 s/DIV (1000 ns), the
rise time would be 360 ns (1000 ns / 10 = 100 ns, 100 ns x 3.6 DIV = 360 ns).
9. To measure fall time, simply shift the trace horizontally until a tailing edge passes
through the 10% and centre vertical graticule lines, and repeat steps 7 and 8.

Connect the different elements as shown in the previous figure and set CH1 and
CH2 switches to the same position. Use the Horizontal POSITION control [11] and [19]
to shift the traces until they overlap. Amplitude difference will be due to the amplifier. Adjust
VOLTS/DIV and VARIABLE switches of one channel so the traces overlap completely. if
any difference exists, it is due to distortion. To display distortion only, invert the polarity of
the channel two signal by means of CH2 INV [16] and select ADD mode. The remaining
signal corresponds to the distortion. When no distortion is present a horizontal straight line
would be displayed.
5.2.3 TV Repairing
OD-512 includes a TV synchronism separator circuit that makes easy the horizontal
or vertical synchronism observation, blanking pulses, image components, as well
composite video signal (complete).
06/2003 Page 33
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
Phase difference or phase angle between two signals can be measured using the
dual-trace feature of the oscilloscope, or by operating the oscilloscope in the X-Y mode.
Dual-trace Method. This method works with any type of waveform. In fact, it will
often work even if different waveforms are being compared. This method is effective in
measuring large or small differences in phase, at any frequency up to 40 MHz.
NOTE:
At high frequencies use identical and correctly-compensated probes, or
equal lengths of the same type of coaxial cable to ensure equal delay times.
2. Position the Trigger SOURCE switch [23] to the channel with the cleanest and
most stable trace. Temporally move the other channel’s trace off the screen by means of its
Vertical POSITION control [11] or [19].
3. Centre the stable trace (trigger source) with its Vertical POSITION control
[11] or [19], and adjust its amplitude to exactly 6 vertical by means of its VOLTS/DIV switch
[7] or [22] and VARIABLE control [9] or [21].
4. Use the Trigger LEVEL control [28] to ensure that the trace crosses the central
horizontal graticule line at or near the beginning of the sweep (figure 14).
5. Use the TIME/DIV switch [29], and the VARIABLE control [30] and the Horizontal
POSITION control [32] to display one cycle of trace over 7.2 divisions. When this is
done, each major horizontal division represents 50º and each minor division represents 10º.
Page 34 06/2003
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OD-512
6.Move the off-screen trace back on the CRT with its Vertical POSITION
control [11] or [19], centring it vertically. Use the associated VOLTS/DIV switch [7] or [22]
and VARIABLE control [9] or [21] to adjust its amplitude to exactly 6 vertical divisions.
8. If the phase difference is less than 50º (one major division), set the x10 MAG
switch to x10 position and use the Horizontal POSITION control [32] (if needed) to
position the measurement area back on screen. With x10 magnification, each major
division is 5º and each minor division is 1º.
Lessajous Pattern Method. This method is used primarily with sine waves.
1. Rotate the TIME/DIV switch [29] fully clockwise to its X-Y position.
WARNING
Reduce the trace intensity least the undeflected spot damage the CRT
phosphor.
2. Make sure that x10 MAG [18] control is engaged so, if it is not, an error of 180º
would be introduced.
3. Connect one signal to CH1 connector [8], and other signal to the CH2
connector [20].
5. Adjust the CH1 VOLTS/DIV switch [7] for the largest-possible on-screen display.
7. Count the number of division subtended by the trace along the central vertical
graticule line (dimension A). You can now shift the trace vertically with CH2
POSITION
control [19] to a major division line for easier counting.
8. The phase difference (θ angle) between the two signals is equal to the arcsine of
dimension A : B (the step 7 number divided by 6). For example, the step 7 value of the
figure 15 pattern is 2.0. Dividing this by 6 yields 0.3334, whose arcsine is 19.5º.
9. The simple formula in figure 15 works for angles less than 90º. For angles over
90º (leftware tilt), add 90º to the angle found in step 7. Figure 15 shows the Lissajous
patterns of various phase angels: use this as guide in determining whether or not to add the
additional 90º.
NOTE:
The sine-to-angle conversion can be accomplished by using trigonometric
tables or a scientific calculator.

Cependant, si on

(fig. 9).

Figure 7.- Mesure de tension pic à pic. Distance verticale, ligne de référence
Page 26 06/2003
MANUEL D’UTILISATION OD-512
figure 10, la tension pour l’échelle 0.5 V/DIV est de 2.5 V (5 DIV x 0.5 V/DIV).
