Course information
The English 2 identified with the code 90021 belongs to the Virtual Institute of Languages - INVIL and
is transversal to several programs offered by the University. The course will grant the student two
academic credits which are developed through two academic Units.

Academic purpose
The English 2 Course seeks that the student can recognize and appropriate the English basic contents,
can comprehend the foreign language through the different skills: oral comprehension and written
comprehension. • Encourage students to realize the importance of learning English in labor, academic
and personal contexts. • Take advantage of technical-didactic resources to learn a foreign language.

Academic units
This course will be developed in two units: Unit 1: Asking and giving relevant information. In this unit
the student will have the opportunity to express opinion, give advice and describe obligation. Unit 2:
Describing, comparing things and expressing. In this part the students will describe places, people and
situations.

Semaforized agenda
The course contains a semaforized agenda, that is the schedule of the course that allows to visualize
the moments of evaluation with the respective academic activities; its typology (individual or
collaborative), opening and closing date, evaluative weights and deadlines established for the tutor to
inform the student about the feedback. It is called “semaforized” because it emits time indicators for
the delivery of the activities through the colors.

Course tasks
The activities will be developed in three moments: In the Initial moment, the task 1 is an English
diagnostic test. In the Intermediate moment, are developed the task 2 Writing task forum, the task 3
Reading and listening Quiz, the task 4 Speaking task forum and practice session, and the task 5
General course review. The Final moment includes the task 6 Final Exam.
Evaluation moments
The evaluation of the course is carried out in three moments: Initial evaluation: related to the online
task prior to thematic development. Intermediate evaluation: the course units are evaluated by
means of proposed tasks. The initial and intermediate evaluation make up 75% of the course. Final
evaluation: a Closed Objective Test of the knowledge acquired during the development of the
thematic contents is performed. It is equivalent to 25% of the course.

Course objective
UNAD, faithful to its mission as a leading organization in open and distance education, exerts an

knowledge in different work and everyday life contexts.

This course contributes significantly to the English language proficiency so that UNAD professionals
can participate in cultural exchanges, enable access to education, and facilitate social, political and
economic relations, among others. Similarly, the importance of learning English is supported by the
general Colombian Education law, which highlights the ability to express oneself in a foreign language
from the first years of study.
