Question tags en afirmaciones Una question tag es una estructura interrogativa que se añade al final de una
oración, casi siempre una afirmación o una negación, normalmente con el fin de transformar esa aseveración
en una pregunta. Consiste en un verbo auxiliar y un pronombre sujeto, por ese orden. El pronombre se refiere
al sujeto de la oración precedente. Si la oración precedente es afirmativa, la tag suele ser negativa, y
viceversa:

It’s five o’clock, isn’t

it?

This exercise is not too difficult,

is it?

Si la tag es negativa, se añade al auxiliar “n’t” en inglés oral (en inglés formal se añade
“not” al final):

Producing children is the main purpose of royal marriages,

is it not?

La question tag para I am es aren't I? (para que resulte más fácil pronunciarlo): I am talking a lot
today, aren't I?

El verbo auxiliar que aparece en la question tag depende de la estructura de la oración precedente: - Si la
oración precedente no tiene ningún verbo auxiliar, (en presente simple y pasado simple), entonces se usan los
auxiliares “do” / “does” / “did”, como cuando se hace una pregunta normal:

You know where you're going, don't

you? She lives opposite you, doesn't
she? They arrived yesterday, didn't
they?

- Si hay un verbo auxiliar en la oración precedente, (o si “be” es el único verbo), se usa el mismo auxiliar en la
question tag. Si hay varios auxiliares, se repite el primero. Estos auxiliares incluyen do, does, did, am, is, are,
was, were, have, has, had, will, would, can, could, may, might, must, should, ought y shall (cuya forma
negativa es shan't, pero sólo se usa en inglés formal):

I will have to be
careful,won't I?

Si el verbo de la oración precedente es there be, se repite there en la

question tag:

There's a lot of smoke here, isn't
