A method has been developed for the deposition of conductive metals onto fibers within textile structures. The
resultant fabric exhibited full metal coverage with good adhesion to the fibers. As well as being conductive and
extremely flexible with little effect on its handle and drape properties. In order to make a conductive fabric,
cotton was first mercerized followed by immersion in poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) solution. Silver
nitrate was then reduced on the surface of the fabric which allowed formation of silver nanoparticles.

Smart fabrics and interactive textiles are a relatively new area of research, with many potential applications in
the field of biomedical engineering. Sensors integrated into textiles in contact with the body have the ability to
capture many useful physiological signals. This chapter discusses some of the signals that can be measured
using smart textiles and examples of the application of this technology.

Publication date: 2016. Source: Geotextiles Author(s): A.N. Desai, Ravi Kant This chapter discusses the
concept of using natural fibres in geotextile applications. A review of the background and the need for natural
fibre geotextiles is followed by a description of the different types of natural fibres, their extraction and the
properties and manufacture of natural fibre geotextiles. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the areas of
application of natural fibre geotextiles with current and future market trends for natural geotextiles.

Liang With the improvement of people’s living standards and environmental awareness, antimicrobial products
will have a huge market. The cross-infection of bacteria between people in public areas can be reduced or
eliminated by using antimicrobial textiles and plastics. The production of antimicrobial textiles and plastics has
been a new important industry. The purpose of this chapter is to review the research and development
progress in smart antimicrobial composite coatings for textiles and plastics. It focuses on classification of
antimicrobials, antimicrobial mechanisms, and processing methods for antimicrobial textiles and plastics.

Publication date: 2016. Source:Active Coatings for Smart Textiles Author(s): F. Salaün The importance of
smart coating textiles increased has rapidly in the textile market owing to competition and has gained added
value and increased in market possibilities. Consumers now search not just for aesthetic properties but also for
functional ones. Microcapsules have an important role in achieving smart coating textiles because of their
properties, such as their protection of active substances, controlled release, and compatibility, and because
they provide higher surface area to improve desired effects.

Publication date: 2016. Source: Active Coatings for Smart Textiles Author(s): C.-W. Kan This chapter reviews
the use of plasma treatment in smart textiles. With the use of plasma treatment, surface properties of the
material can be changed to introduce different functional effects although the material's bulk properties may not
be affected. However, traditional methods use chemicals and water for surface modification whereas plasma
treatment can be considered a dry process. Extant research has revealed that plasma treatment has the
possibility and feasibility of being used as an alternative to traditional methods for smart textiles.

tecnologías de fabricación de sustratos textiles y del proceso de impregnación en condiciones supercríticas;

The present disclosure relates to a smart textile product and a method for
manufacturing a smart textile product. The smart textile product is provided
with a flexible and/or stretchable textile fabric (10) comprising a plurality of
electrically conductive threads (11, 12) and at least one rigid electronic or
optoelectronic component (20) comprising at least one electrically
conductive pad (21, 22), which is in electrical contact with at least one of
the plurality of electrically conductive threads. The smart textile product
(10) comprises an elastomeric encapsulation layer (31) in which the
electrical connection (1, 2) is embedded, so as to provide a gradual
transition in deformability between the flexible and/or stretchable textile
fabric (10) and the at least one rigid component (20) at the location of the
at least one electrical connection (1, 2).
