Chord Families
A chord family is a group of related chords. They’re related because you often use these chords
together to play songs. Songs are usually written in a certain key. When you play a song in a
specific key, you generally play only chords in that chord family. This is similar to the color
combination you use in your clothing selection. They sound good when played together.
6
sacredvalleytribe.com/medicine-songs/
Think of a family of chords as a tree. One of the chords — the one that feels like home base in a
song (usually the chord you start and end a song with) — is the tree’s root (the key), and the other
chords in the family are the different branches rising up from that same root. Together, the root and
branches make up the family. For example, a song in the key of C will contain mostly chords in the
C family.
There are songs written in a Major scale and songs in a Minor scale. Every major scale has a
relative minor scale. They are relative because they share the same family chords. For example
the C major scale and the A minor scale are relative scales. They have the same exact group of
chords, only they root note is different.
Most of the songs in this songbook are played in the Major Key of C, D and G or in the Minor Key
of Am, Dm and Em, which are very popular because its family of chords are easy to play. They
contain a combination of mostly open chords (open-position chords).
An open chord is a chords that contain open strings (strings that you play without pressing down
any frets), opposed to bar chords, that are chords that need all strings to be fretted, and are a little
more tricky to play.
If you are playing a song in a particular Key and you find that it doesn’t suit your vocal range, you
can switch to another Key that better suit your vocal range using the chart above. For example, if
our song is in the C Major Key and it is using the C, F and G chords, we can switch to the G Major
Key and use the G, C, D chords instead.

so by awakening the love of His nature and creating out of it His object of love, which is beauty. Dervishes,
with this meaning, salute each other by saying, 'Ishq Allah Ma'bud Allah' – 'God is love, lover and beloved'.

This song was was gifted in Varanasi, in Benares, Kashi, ( one of the oldest inhabited cities on the planet) on
the banks of the river Ganga, Ganga ma. It was written by the burning Ghats, while the Hindu pilgrims,
devotees bring their families, their beloveds that are dead, to be cremated in the funeral pyres on the Ghats.
To be cremated in the burning Ghats is said to clear lifetimes of karma, it’s the highest honor for the hindu
pilgrims.
Reminding us that this too shall pass. It’s good to face your death before dying. To find true reason for living.
Oh what a shame to look back on it all, and you know you never gave it your all.
We are given One life at a time, and this is it. So we give thanks, anicha anicha … this too shall pass. Jay

Giving thanks to express our love

Guided by the light that resides inside
Toma toma la medicina

Toma toma la medicina
_Toma toma la medicina
Purging out my insides trying to find insight
I See the big light but right now it's too bright
Past present future it's all right now
My Head is in the clouds but the clouds are loud
_Everything vibrates and moves
_All things sing and dance for you
But first you need to believe its true
The rest will happen, just be not do
Let's grow let it flow
Face your pain and then let it go
life's so short don't live in doubt
Look inside find out what you're about
Then share the love that you have within
Shed that fear like your serpent skin
No illusion, aya speaks the truth
Go to your heart to find the proof
Some call it god I call it life
DNA, the language of light
She reminds us of what we already know
Love ourselves and take it slow
Happiness begins with a smile
Don't forget you were once a child
Plant your seeds and climb the tree
Let those dark spirits free
Fear is strong but you have the strength
Let it go separate the pain
From your heart and your soul will gain
Cause love is the one and only way

MANTRAS
This is perhaps one of the most profound Vedic mantras ever. What this chant is asking for is the Highest of
the Highest. It is a mantra which is implying that the seeker understands finally that there is no peace or
happiness in anything material. That anything material will forever be transient and will forever bring
suffering. Understanding this, the seeker chants this mantra and asks only for Truth, Truth and Truth.
Above in the meanings, the implications are as follows. In asking for deliverance from "Asat", the seeker is
asking for deliverance from Maya, duality or the dream world. The seeker is saying, I feel this reality is not
the Truth, please awaken me to the Absolute Truth (Sat). The seeker is aiming for God Realization.
Similarly, in the second line, the seeker is asking to be delivered form darkness (Tamaso), meaning
ignorance, to light (Jyotir), meaning awakening. Again, the seeker, understanding that what is most
important in life, is awakening to the Truth, asks for nothing material, but asks for Enlightenment and True
Knowledge instead.
In the third line, the seeker is not asking for eternal life or immortality. The seeker is asking for Self
Realization. The seeker is asking to be awakened to his Infinite, Timeless, Un-born and Eternal nature. The
seeker is requesting to be awakened to his True Nature, to who he truly is, and that awakening to the eternal
Self is the freedom from time and death which he is seeking.

It reminds us that our relationships with all beings and things should be mutually beneficial if we ourselves
desire happiness and liberation from suffering. No true or lasting happiness can come from causing
unhappiness to others. No true or lasting freedom can come from depriving others of their freedom. If we say
we want every being to be happy and free, then we have to question everything that we do-how we live, how
we eat, what we buy, how we speak, and even how we think.

MOOLA MANTRA
This Moolamantra has given great peace and joy to people all over the world, who have chanted,
or even listened to it. It has the power to transport ones mind to the state of causeless love and
awareness expansion. The calmness that the mantra can give is to be experienced, not spoken
about.
The Mantra is like calling a name. Just like when you call a person he comes and makes you feel
his presence, the same manner when you chant this mantra, the supreme energy manifests
everywhere around you.

PURNAMADAH MANTRA
The Purnamadah Mantra is the opening prayer of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.
PurNam, the single noun in the verse, is a beautiful Sanskrit word which
means completely filled - a filledness which (in its Vedic scriptural
sense) is wholeness itself, absolute fullness lacking nothing whatsoever.
Adah, which means ’that’, and idam, which means ’this’, are two
pronouns each of which, at the same time, refers to the single noun,
pUrNam: PUrNam adah - completeness is that, PUrNam idam -
completeness is this.
Idam, this, refers to something not remote but present, here and now,
immediately available for perception, something directly known or
knowable. Thus it can be said that adah refers to the unknown, the unknown in the sense of the not-directly
known due to remoteness, and idam refers to the immediately perceivable known. In other words, idam
stands for all things capable of being known as objects. So when the verse says pUrNam idam,
"completeness is this", what is being said is that all that one knows or is able to know is pUrNam.
PurNam, completeness, absolute fullness, must necessarily be formless. PurNam cannot have a form
because it has to include everything. Any kind of form means some kind of boundary; any kind of boundary
means that something is left out - something is on the other side of the boundary. Absolute completeness
requires formlessness.

SHIVA
Shiva means “Auspicious One”
He is described as the one who is completely pure, untainted by the
world of form and temptations, uttering his name can bring salvation
from the cycle of reincarnation.
He is one of the three Gods of the Hindu trinity: Brahman, Vishnu and
Shiva.
Shiva is responsible for the creation and desolution of the universe.
He is the eternal yogi, blissfully unaffected by maya (illusion).
He destroys our attachments and delusions and brings our liberation.
Shiva is often depicted with a third eye with which he burned Desire
(Kāma) to ashes.

Om Namah Shivaya
Darbari Raga
Diego Palma (Thailand, Jun 2010)
Pisaq singing circle (Pisaq, Sep 30, 2012)
Namah means bowing to the divine. Shivaya is the force of the divine that sweeps away the
negative and renew the spirit. “I bow to the inner self” or “I honor the God inside myself and in all
things.”

O Triyambaks (Three eyed one), Gauri (Parvati) Naraayani (exposer of consciousness) Namostute (we bow
to you)”
This prayer is to Goddess Parvati (Gauri, Durga, the consort of Lord Shiva, and worshipped as Shakti.) If we
pray to Goddess Parvati, who is Auspicious, Mercy and Bliss, then she bestows upon us such strength that
helps us to escape the delusion and to get liberation.
This hymn is addressed by every hindu during every possible marriage ceremony because Parvati is the
goddess of fertility and marriage.

This mantra in Punjabi language is said among the kundalini yogis to be the mantra for the
aquarian age. When we chant it we affirm that we are timeless, deathless beings, and imparts a
deep sense of peace to the chanter.

“Ishq” means unconditional love and “Ma’būd" means beloved,
adored. Literally, Allāh is Love, Allāh is Beloved. The Sufi in the East says to himself, 'Ishq Allah,
Ma'bud Allah,' which means 'God is Love, God is the Beloved', in other words it is God who is
Love, Lover, and Beloved. “Allāh Ya Jamile” means Allāh complete beauty.
