ABSTRACT
With the help of the technical Colombian rule [NTC 176] it was stablished the test method to determine the
density and absorption of the thick aggregate, and with the rule [NTC 237] the test method for the density
determination to one temperature between 23C and 2C, and the absorption of the fine aggregate. The density
can be expressed in three different ways such as apparent density, apparent saturated density and superficially
dry, and nominal density. For an optimum test, the sample should be immersed in water for 24 hours. It was
used the international unit system for the values of these tests. Finally, it should be borne in mind that these
rules do not take into account the security problems that are related with their use, and it is responsibility of
who does this procedure to stablish the security rules and determine the applicability of the regulatory
constraints.
