Gentica Humana de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, y el fundador del Instituto de Gentica de la misma Universidad. Yunis es considerado el padre de la gentica humana y de la gentica mdica en Colombia y en Amrica Latina. Sus trabajos en gentica le han servido para explicar cientficamente la historia y regionalismos de Colombia.
En 2012 recibi el ttulo de doctor honoris
causa de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, el cual fue recibido por su hijo Juan Jos Yunis. Autor de mltiples artculos cientficos en gentica, as como de varios libros y galardonado en varias ocasiones con el Premio "Alejandro ngel Escobar" de Colombia.

Emilio Jos Yunis Peaty is a geneticist doctor
born in Sincelejo was the creator of the program of Master in Human genetics of the National University of Colombia, and the founder of the Institute of Genetics of the same university. Yunis is considered the father of human genetics and medical genetics in Colombia and Latin America. His work in genetics has helped him to explain the history and regionalisms of Colombia scientifically. In 2012 he received the title of Doctor honoris causa of the National University of Colombia, which was received by his son Juan Jos Yunis. Author of multiple scientific articles in genetics, as well as several books and awarded several times with the prize "Alejandro ngel Escobar" of Colombia. Discovered Yunis-male syndrome in 1980. Since his retirement as a professor at the National University of Colombia in 1997, after 37 years of service, he runs a private genetics Institute
