Como artista y vecina del barrio del Centro Cultural La Corrala he estado
interesada por la historia de este emblemtico edificio madrileo. A travs de mi
obra pretendo investigar las historias de la gente annima, narrativas vinculadas
generalmente a un acontecimiento histrico o sitio especfico. Le doy la misma
importancia a la historia oral como a la escrita sobre el pasado. Actualmente
estoy investigando como est cambiando el mundo laboral, exponiendo y haciendo
intervenciones en antiguas fbricas o talleres.

Me interesa la Corrala como smbolo de la inmigracin rural, miles de personas

dejaron el campo y la agricultura para venir a trabajar a la ciudad. Reflexiono
sobre lo que signific ese hecho y sus repercusiones en la sociedad
contempornea. Fue una poca de transformacin en la vida cotidiana y sobretodo
en la vida laboral. Utilizando procesos de dibujo y pintura investigo como se
puede mostrar la fragilidad de la memoria. Trabajo a partir de imgenes
encontradas de trabajadores en el campo y la ciudad en sitios como la tabacalera
o el matadero como ejemplos cercanos. Para fragmentar los recuerdos y mostrar la
poca fiabilidad de la fotografa utilizo capas de imgenes superpuestas de la
vida cotidiana en la ciudad y algunos ejemplos de lo que haba dejado atrs. Mi
propia memoria se mezcla con las narraciones annimas. En esta exposicin me
enfoco en la gente, sus historias, sus herramientas y contextos de trabajo. Me
gustara plantear preguntas sobre lo que dejaron y lo que encontraron aqu y
reflexionar sobre si habran visto ese proceso de cambio como `el progreso, un
concepto que ahora est bastante desacreditado.

As artist and neighbour of la Corrala, I am very interested in the history of the
emblematic building which is now the cultural center. Through my work I investigate
the stories of anonymous people. In some cases their narratives are related to a
specific site or event. Although I am looking at unknown people I am interested in
oral history as much as that which is written about the past. For example I have
exhibited and made interventions in disused factories or workshops in order to raise
questions about what is happening in the world of work today.

I am interested in La Corrala as a symbol of the change from working the land to

coming to live and work in the city. I would like to reflect on the effects of these
changes for the world at that time and how that relates to what is happening now.
The migration to the city meant a great change in everyday and working lives.
Through the processes of drawing and painting I aim to show the fragility of memory.
I use old found photographs of the people working in the rural and then local
industrial contexts: in places such as the cigarette factory and the slaughterhouse
for example. In order to fragment the memories and show the unreliability of
photography I use layers of images of life in the country and the city. I focus on
the people and their tools and places of work. I am questioning what they left
behind and what they found here and whether they would have seen this migration as
progress, a concept which today is rather discredited.
