lt is with special pleasure that J have this privilege o f saluting Professor A. Garca
Sacristn and his co-authors for their professio na l sk ill in producing this Physiology
Textbook. I am greatly impressed by their bala nced coverage of the world of physiologi-
cal knowledge so important for both the medica! student and students in beginning
careers as professional physiologists.
I very much Iike the author's emphasis on basic scientific concepts with special
emphasis on physiological regulation - also, the many superb figures tha t portray the
concepts. These concepts will remain with the student throughout his scientific carecr
and will provide background for many yea rs of new discovery in both basic science of
physiology and continued growth of medica] knowledge.
Finally, please note the formidable selection of physiology scholars who ha ve written
chapters for this text, making it a book tha t the student will cherish and wish to kccp
throughout his creer.
