OPERATION:
1. Charpy Tools:
a. raise the hammer up to its latched position and close the safety latch to
prevent the handle from accidentally releasing the hammerIf installed,
remove the tension impact adaptor
b.
c. If installed, remove the tensión impact anvils (720-C) and install the front
charpy anvil (720-A) by seating the anvil and holding it in place by lightly
tightening the side screw. Next install the two (2) screws in the swing
plane and torque them to 27 foot-pounds. Then torque the side screw to
27 foot-pounds. Repeat this procedure with the rear charpy anvil (720-B).
After installing the charpy anvils, check the distance between the anvils
to be sure it is within the tolerances stated in section III of these
instructions or ASTM E 23
laterales a 27 libras-pie. Repita este procedimiento con el yunque Charpy
trasera (720-B).
d.
B. testing procedure
1. The test specimens must be prepared and testing performed in accordance
with the . current ASTM E 23 Test Method.
a. Charpy: place the charpy specimen horizontally across the supports with the
notch facing away from the hammer. Make certain that the notch is centered
between the anvils. Optional centering Charpy Tongs are available to assist in
the positioning of the specimen.
3. With the hammer latched, fully rotate the pointer counter-clockwise until it
stops, this should be at the full scalle reading of 300 ft. lbf. do not rotate the
pointer too fast or force it against the return - stop.
B. procedimiento de pruebas:
Caution:
Make sure that all tools, parts, etc. are cleared of the hammer swing. Caution all
personnel away from the area in front and back of the hammer swing.
4. Slide the safety latch clear of the latch handle and release the hammer by
pushing the handle in toward the machime. The hammer will drop and attain a
striking Velocity of 17.83 feet per second, strike the specimen and swing on
through to a height which depends on the amount of energy absorbed in the
breaking of the specimen. The pointer will move across the energy scale and
come to rest at a pointer wich indicates the energy absorbed. On the return
swing (after the specimen has broken) carefully catch the hammer as the
hammer reaches the high point of its return swing and lower it down to a free
haning position.
libre.
Note:
For machimes equipped with an optional electric brake and/ or hammer return.
The brake button may be depressed anytime After the hammer has completed
one full swing
Nota:
5. record the energy absorbed from the energy scale prior to raising the
hammer for removal of the broken specimen or the next test. Otherwise, a
erroneous value could be obtained by jarring the machine when locking the
hammer in its upright position.
6. Always leave the hammer down in a free hanging position when the machine
is not in use.
1. Check for proper leveling using the leveling pads located on the base of the
machine. Final leveling in the longitudinal direction should be checked by
inserting a specimen in the machine and observing if the striking edge is just
contacting or within 0.01" of touching the specimen when the pendulum is
hanging vertically.
2. remove the specimen and check the free drop reading as covered in section I
of instruction Booklet # 84 -7a. If zero is not obtained proceed as follows.
4. If any adjustments are made be sure to recheck the free drop reading. If
zero is still not correct proceed as follows.
a. With the pendulum hanging in the vertical position rotate the indicating
pointer to full scale. If the pointer does not reach the full scale reading
adjust the pointer stop located on the back of the energy scale. When
properly set, a gap of approximately 0.001” should remain between the
pointer stop (518-F) and the pointer spindle rod (518-E) when the pointer
reads full scale.
b. Manually push the pendulum very slowly, as if impacting a specimen,
while observing the indicating pointer. The pointer should begin to move
down scale when the pendulum is pushed just beyond its free hanging
position.
c. The actual indicator reading with the pendulum freely hanging should be
within 0.25% of full scale. This can be checked by rotating the pointer fully
to the left. It should be noted that the pointer spindle rod (518-E) must be in
contact with the pointer pusher (516-B) and not against the pointer stop
mentioned in Para. 5a above.
Note:
the full scale reading is less critical than the free drop reading.
6. Check the free drop reading several times. If zero is not achieved the pointer
pusher (516-B) must be repositioned. Clockwise adjustment (as viewed when
facing the energy scale) will decrease readings. Minor adjustments can be
made by carefully tapping the pointer pusher in the appropriate direction using a
soft metal rod struck lightly with a hammer. Larger adjustments should be made
by loosening the set screw in the pointer pusher collar before adjusting. Always
check to insure the set screws are tightened before final free drop readings are
taken.
Note:
after the proper free drop readings are obtained, recheck the full scale reading
as covered in para. 5c above.
* this replaces the adjusting nut (518-D) on machines shipped after May 1, 1994
and is shown as revision (Z) on drawing 7-2-921.
Nota:
