HIGH SHUT-OFF SEALING MECHANISM

Grcias a la presin del muelle o resorte del asiento

tanto aguas arriba como aguas abajo, los asientos
se mantienen siempre en contacto con la esfera.
Mediante la presin de lnea, tambin ayuda a que el
contacto entre el asiento y la esfera tenga siempre un
excelente sellado en ambos asientos, al mismo tiempo.

A floating seat design is employed so that each of

the upstream and downstream seats is adequately
maintained in contact with the ball by means of
a seat spring. Line pressure helps this contact
method. It features excellent sealing performance
independently on both side seats at the same time.

FUNCIN DE BLOQUEO Y PURGA

BLOCK AND BLEED FUNCTION

Ambos asientos, pueden cerrar el paso de fluido de

forma independiente, aguas arriba o aguas abajo de
la esfera. El paso interior de la vlvula y la cavidad del
cuerpo estn aislados entre s, tanto en la posicin
de vlvula totalmente abierta, como cerrada. De ste
modo, mediante las vlvulas de seguridad de drenaje
y venteo, se puede acceder a la cavidad del cuerpo y
comprobar el buen funcionamiento de ambos asientos,
sin necesidad de desmontar la vlvula.

Ball seats may shut off the line fluid independently, on

the upstream and downstream side of the ball. The
valve bore and the body cavity are isolated from each
other when the valve is fully opened or closed. Under
this condition, anti-blow-out vent & drain plugs may be
opened to check seat integrity with the main valve in
either the open or closed position. Since there is no leak
path from the pipeline to the body cavity other than
via the seats or seat seals, bleeding the body cavity will
indicate any leakage.

FIRE SAFE DESIGN

1) Prevencin de fugas internas

Cuando los materiales elsticos de sellado se
descomponen o deterioran por un incendio en planta,
el borde de metal retenedor del asiento presionado
por el resorte del asiento, entra en contacto con la
esfera para cerrar el fluido de la lnea y minimizar
las fugas internas a travs del paso de la vlvula. El
retn del asiento tambin ejercen compresin, las
estopadas flexibles de grafito diseadas por KITZ
evitan fugas de lquido entre el cuerpo de la vlvula
y el reten del asiento.

1) Internal leakage prevention

When resilient sealing materials are decomposed or
deteriorated by a plant fire, the edge of the metal
seat retainer preloaded by the seat spring comes
into contact with the ball to shut off the line fluid to
minimize internal leakage through the valve bore.
The seat retainer also compresses KITZ originally
designed flexible graphite retainer packings to
prevent fluid leakage from between the valve body
and the seat retainer.

2) Prevencin de fugas externas

Las fugas en la zona del eje de la vlvula se evitan
mediante el sellado con dobles juntas tricas, juntas
y estopadas flexibles de grafito. Las fugas en la unin
del cuerpo y el terminal de la vlvula estn protegidas
por doble sellado con juntas tricas y juntas flexibles
de grafito. Despus de un incendio las juntas tricas
se deterioran y son las estopadas como las juntas
flexibles de grafito, las que evitan la fuga de fluido.

2) External leakage prevention

Leakage from the valve stem area is prevented by
double sealing with O-ring and flexible graphite
gland packings. Leakage through the valve body
joint is also protected by double sealing with
O-rings and flexible graphite gaskets. After a fire
has deteriorated O-rings, flexible graphite packings
and gaskets are the measure that prevents external
fluid leakage.

CAVITY PRESSURE RELIEF

En caso de un inusual aumento de temperatura

de servicio o ambiente, el gas licuado, altamente
voltil, atrapado dentro de la cavidad del cuerpo
puede evaporarse y causar un aumento excesivo
de presin en la cavidad. Por motivos de seguridad,
est previsto que cuando la presin de dicha
cavidad supera a la de la lnea, el asiento se mover
ligeramente alejndose de la superficie de la esfera,
para aliviar dicha presin excesiva directamente al
paso de la vlvula.

In case of unusually high increase of servicing or

ambient temperature, liquefied gas or highly volatile
liquid trapped within the body cavity may evaporate,
and cause an excessive rise in the cavity pressure.
For safety considerations, a provision is made so that
when the cavity pressure exceeds the line pressure,
the ball seat will move slightly away from the ball
surface to relieve the excessive cavity pressure into
the valve bore.

DISEO ANTIESTTICO

ANTI STATIC DESIGN

Entre la conexin de la esfera y el eje, se ubica el

dispositivo antiesttico que asegura siempre la
continuidad elctrica entre todos los componentes
de la vlvula.

the stem and the bonnet permits electrical continuity
between all valve components.

Para mitigar las fugas accidentales en los

asientos de la esfera o en el rea de sellado
del eje, puede suministrarse como opcin, un
mecanismo sellador. Si el material de sellado
se daa o descompone por fuego u otras causas
accidentales, estas fugas pueden ser temporalmente
impedidas por inyeccin de grasa selladora
mediante este mecanismo.

For accidental leakage from the ball seat or stem

sealing area, a sealant supply mechanism may be
provided as an option. Should the sealing material be
damaged or decomposed by fire or other accidental
causes, leakage can be temporarily prevented by
injection of the sealant into this mechanism.

An optional stem extension design is available for

underground or remote valve operation. Specify the
dimension between the center of the valve bore and
the center of the valve operator. Valve operating
medium such as electric and pneumatic actuators
are also optionally available.

Los rangos de presin-temperatura en las vlvulas de

esfera con asientos blandos estn determinados no
slo por los materiales del cuerpo sino esencialmente,
por los asientos, estopadas, anillos de seguridad y
juntas. El material de sellado puede ser de alto peso
molecular o de goma, pero la eleccin se vera limitada
por las caractersticas del servicio, temperatura,
presin, velocidad de fluido y frecuencia de maniobra
de la vlvula.

The pressure-temperature rating of soft seated

ball valve are determined, not only by the valve
shell materials, but also by the sealing materials
used for ball seat, gland packings, O-rings, flange
gaskets and bearings. Sealing materials may be
high molecule, or rubber, but the choice is limited
by characteristics of the service fluid, working
pressures, fluid velocity, and operational frequency
of the valve.

Dado que es difcil predeterminar con exactitud el

rango de temperatura-presin para todo tipo de
condiciones de fluido, basado en nuestra experiencia,
tanto en instalaciones como en nuestro laboratorio,
hemos preparado una grfica general segn las posibles
condiciones del fluido en rgimen constante.
Un factor especialmente a tener en cuenta, es la
necesidad de aumentar la frecuencia del mantenimiento
de la vlvula, en caso de trabajar a muy alta temperatura.

As it is very difficult to predetermine the exact

pressure-temperature ratings for all kinds of fluid
under all imaginable conditions, general rating
charts have been provided for non-shock fluid
service below, based on KITZ past experiences both
in the field and in KITZ laboratory. Frequent need of
maintenance is another factor to be kept in mind,
if very high temperature operation is planned or
expected.
