“With very few kilometers, the race was a very fast one –
the average speed was around 48 kph – and in spite of the
many attacks which started from the very start it was
impossible to avoid a massive sprint”, commented Alejandro
Valverde, after the race won by rider from New Zeeland Greg
Henderson (Team Sky) ahead of his team-mate Chris Sutton.
“The race was indeed a very short one, something more than
50 kilometers, but I was really happy to compete again after
spending three months training at home. I believe all the
riders who are present in Australia are also very happy to be
here also because we had the opportunity to train under the
sun since we arrived. We tried to help team-mate José
Joaquín Rojas so that he can take part in the sprint, but
Team Sky riders were so strong that it was just impossible to
defeat them.”
“I had good feelings and I must tell it was a really nice
experience most of all thanks to the many people who came
and see the race. Something almost unbelievable!”
