much that one day I fell to the sea with my brand new clothes (thanks for being there, my dear uncle and aunt). Ah, those starters are so good!. Over the years, it was always at my side, sometimes despised, just as you despise what you love. The most, was total indifference. Although it was always faithful to me. Only sometimes, usually in times of grief, I visited it.Then I got relaxed, but at once, like a bad lover, I left leaving it alone in its vastness (basically I knew it would be waiting for me). In repeated visits to the house of my uncle the memories came back to me. So many objects: ashtray (Costa C), table (Prez y Cia.), photos, anchors, port memos and more anchors. These momories, like the sea, will always be in me, but sometimes also ignore them.Years passed (no one calls me rubio anymore), and to that blue and that house come others who want to share my feelings. All of them come from that blue, mounted on large bright boats. All as curious almost like a child. They want to discover in some corner to a seasoned sailor that shouts them Rubio! what house you say you need?, some waiter who diligently serve them that drink, perhaps a sherry, or someone familiar that help them in the city. As others helped to this child that still lives in me. Fortunately, so its always present, life blessed me with a daughter, her eyes are of the color of the sea, the most brave, green, becoming the main of his many virtues. Welcome to the most friendly and beautiful city in the Mediterranean, the city that the big blue slipped in these shores long long time ago... Enjoy it.
CURIOSIDADES
Catedral de Mlaga
The Cathedral of Mlaga is known as The Manquita because it lacks one of its towers.
HE cathedral is considered the most important monument in Mlaga. It occupies the site of the old mosque, temple that was christianized by the Catholic Monarchs after conquering the city in 1487. It was designed the original cathedral, from wich is the entrance gateway, the Sagrario, besides to the main temple. But in 1525 it was decided to make a new cathedral. This huge temple has been involved during its construction in constant interruptions and problems until well into the eighteenth century. Specifically in 1782, with one of the towers unfinished, it ended the long construction process. The economic resources for its construction were exhausted. In the nineteenth and twentieth centurys there were several attempts to finish the work and to construct the missing tower, but they were unsuccessful. From the artistic point of view, the facade is a highlight, divided in two heights and three blocks separated by monumental Corinthian columns. The front door is topped with twisted columns. Over the doors there are medallions. The side doors represent the saints of the city, San Ciriaco and Santa Paula, while the center represents the Annunciation of the Lord, a piece carved in 1743 by the baroque sculptor Antonio Ramos. The interior has three bodies, being the wider the one in the center. Particular note deserves the semicircular chapel, designed by Diego de Vergara in 1541with its high walls torn by overlapping windows between fluted Corinthian columns and topped with a beautiful ribbed vault. Among the works of art that houses the Cathedral, stand the Gothic altarpieces of the Chapel of Santa Brbara and the tombs from the sixteenth century of the Chapel of San Francisco. As well as other works of Juan Nio de Guevara, Claudio Coello, Alonso de Mena, Francisco Palma o Enrique Simonet.
CURIOSITIES

Mlaga Cathedral
The Cathedral is known by the nickname La Manquita (The Little One-armed) because it lacks one tower to be built. Some think that the funds for construction at the time was spent to support theWar of American Independence. However, it seems that the money went to other purposes, such as works on the road to Antequera. Currently the absence of this tower is a source of controversy in the city, as there are people who think that it has to be finished according the original plans, while others believe that it is best to leave it such it is. Moreover, the Cathedral of Mlaga has been seen in several films as a backdrop. Specifically, the movie Moment of danger, directed by Laszlo Bendek and starring Trevor Howard and Dorothy Dundridgs, was shot in the atrium of the Cathedral in 1959. Much later, some scenes from The Bridge of san Luis (2004) were filmed in there. Among others, Robert DeNiro, Kathy Bates and Harvey Keitle were the stars of the film.

LAGA has on tourism one of the main drivers of its economy. And for the cruise segment, the importance of the province is unquestionable as the port of Mlaga is the second largest of the peninsula and also it enjoys a continual growth in the number of scales, passengers and ships that choose Mlaga as a base port. So, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board is focused on the design of actions that lead to the promotion of this important segment. Embark on a cruise is a way of thinking about the holidays that is gaining more followers and to the Costa del Sol the growth of this segment is undenieble.
This tourist segment is in a process of expansion and growth expectations of strong demand. However, we must not ignore that the future of this segment is determined by a number of factors to which attention must be given. They include the very segmentation of tourism, the phenomenon of multiholidays in families and the improvement in the quality of the scales. At a time when the segment is showing signs of such growth is to be applauded the creation of a specialized publication as Welcome to Mlaga from an industry that brings so many benefits to our destination.

HETajo de Ronda is one of the most representative postcards of Andaluca and, therefore, one of the most sought aftes images by visiting the monumental city that enchanted writers like Ernest Hemingway and Rainer Maria Rilke. The Tajo is the set formed by the dizzying narrow that crosses the Guadalevn river and the New Bridge, designed by architect Martn Aldehuela (who also intervened in the works of the Cathedral of Mlaga). This masterpiece of almost 100 meters high is constructed of stone blocks taken from the bottom of the gorge of the Tajo itself, allowing the connection of the modern and old neighborhood in the late eighteenth century.
HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH
ral set there are several options. The most recommended is the one that allows a front image of the brideg and the narrow. To get a good snapshot is necessary to delve into the old town (first street on the right from the bridge). Our steps lead to a small square. On the right side, overlooking the Tajo, start a paved road that gives us different possibilities, but most of them are similar to the picture illustrating this page. The more down, more impressive image will be taken.
OTHER POSSIBILITIES
With some skill we can also take a good picture of the Tajo if we move into the building hallway adjacent to the Parador, where we can also take very good pictures of the houses hanging over the edge of the precipice, wich are simply spectacular.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
La Cueva del Tesoro: The Treasure Cove: Los misterios de una the mysteries of an inslita gruta marina unusual marine cave
OCATED betweem Rincn de la Victoria and La Cala del Moral, the Treasure Cove is one of the most interesting cavities for its geological and historical value. Inside the Treasure Cove where found prehistoric cave paintings, pottery of Neolithic and a room for the Phoenician goddess Noctiluca. It is a cavity of marine origin, since the different galleries that comprise formed by the pressure of currents and waves of the Mediterranean. But besides these characteristics, this cave is known for the legend that says that there is a treasure inside. According to oral tradition, the Almoravid Ibn Ali Tasufin hid a treasure, then many adventurers sought it. It has never been found any wealth, although it made it possible for Manuel Laza Palacio to discover this beautiful grotto.. Another legend surrounding the Treasure Cove says that one of its galleries hid Marcus Crassus when he fled from Mario and Cinna. Among the most beautiful rooms of this large marine cavity is the Hall of Lakes, where you can see stalactites wich cover a large part of the walls. Excavations of the cave could continue for the Gallery ofVolcano, wich probably communicates directly with the sea. Currently, within this cavity are usually held various musical events, taking advantage of its excellent natural acoustics. It has remains of cave paintings that were described in 1918 by Abbe Breuil, although some of its archaelogical remains of theTreasure Cove stay in the National Archaelogical Museum in Madrid. There are numerous remains of pottery belonging to the Neolithic and objects of lithic industry among them a Solutrean arrowhead. In various excavations appaered human and animal remains. In addition to this cave, in the surroundings you can visit the Archaelogical Park of the Mediterranean. With 90,000 square meters, scientific informative spirit is the centerpiece of this exhibition, which has recovered the original geomorphological surface and the native Mediterranean vegetation. This park is a summary of how is possible the prehistorical heritage conservation in conjunction with the sociocultural use of the place. The exhibition includes diverse native flora and some roads that are enclosed with natural rock, all of them intented to produce the least environmental possible impact. Visitors can enjoy a 1:1 scale replica of the wall of the cave of La Victoria in wich paintings were found plus several informative panels on the caves and the flora of the site.

LAGA, with the name of Malaka (salting of fish), was founded by the Phoenicians around 800 B.C., used as a commercial enclave, following the colonization started in 1100 B.C., with the founding of Gadir (Cdiz). After the Greek domination for over 70 years, Mlaga was dominated by the Carthaginians, but after the Punic Wars, finished in 202 B.C. with the Roman victory, Mlaga step to the Roman domain, with the name of Flavia Malacitana. It became a major transit point, in close communication with other Roman sites in the Iberian Peninsula and other Mediterranean ports. This period is the Roman Theatre, wich although small in size, is considered one of the oldest in all of Hispania. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Mlaga is affected by the great migrations and settlements of the Germanic peoples, specifically, the Vandals Silings that imported the East Arian Creed. In the early eight century begins the downfall of the Gothic monarchy and, from the coast of North Africa, the penetration of the Arabs in the Iberian Peninsula. Mlaga fell under his rule in 743, becoming a flourishing town, surrounded by a wall with five large doors. Numerous walled suburbs and neighborhoods made up the city, crossed from east to west by a route that connected the port and the Citadel with the inclosure walls. Independent from the rest of the city were settled the Genoese trade and jewry suburbs. In the eighth century, Rahman III built in the Atarazanas Gate (current access to the central market). Althogh in the fourteenth century there were the first attepmpts of conquest, it was not until the end of the fifteenth century when the Catholic Monarchs conquered the city. Mlaga was conquered on August 19, 1487 (Granada was the very last city conquered in 1492).With the Catholic con-
quest, religious communities are central to urban growth, bringing together around the suburbs. They first created a large square, the Plaza Mayor (now knwon as Plaza de la Constitucin), and the convents of the Victoria and Trinity. The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were marked by the crises that led to the expulsion of the Moors on one side and on the other bad harvests, floods caused by the overflowing of the river Guadalmedina and epidemics. In the seventeenth century, the port was built and later expanded. Although the Cathedral began its work in 1528, do not end until the eighteenth century, well into the Baroque. At the same time, started a new expansion of the port, reviving some recovery of previous centuries. In the nineteenth century, Mlaga begins a major urban development, with and industrial area over another area of large villas and hotels (opens the Calle Marques de Larios and the Alameda, yet important milestones of the city). The economic and political crisis, due to the tyranny of King Fernando VII (wich allowed the unjust execution of Torrijos, along with his men, whose remains rest in the square called now Plaza de la Merced), are the worst issues of the city in the nineteenth century. The first decades of the twentieth century were not very prosperous, but from the 60s, Mlaga becomes the main tourist atraction in Spain. Millions of people choose it as a holiday destination and as an ideal place of residence, becoming the fifth largest city in Spain and in a modern European capital. Mlaga gets enriched by its international diversity and cultural mix.The city enjoys a great infrastructure with excellent domestic connections highways from 1992, and has one of the most important international airports in Europe.
Alcazaba and Roman theater are two of the most important monuments of Mlaga, examples of its rich historical past.

Entrevista \ Interview

HE regional director of Calypso Tours, Jos Mara Callejn, was unanimously elected new president of the Association of Tourism Professional Skal International MlagaCosta del Sol in the month of March. So, he has become the youngest leader of this organization since its inception in 1958. -What priorities has set for this ne w e ra as he ad o f this asso ciation? -It is my honor to chair the International Skal Mlaga-Costa del Sol. And it is especially now, a time full of professional challenges in wich we aplly a generational change. It is true that great things have been done in this era, but we hace new goals. Among them, we will help to those young professionals who want to join the association. To do this we have created a path, Youn Skal, for all those professionals under 30 who want to attend the various events we organize. -That will give fresh air to the association, but what other goals face? -Yes, for us it is fundamental organizing conferences to identify to all persons and authorities involved in tourism. It is a way to connect the tourism entrepreneurs to policy makers when planning. I think its necessary to rely the experience of Skal and, of course, with the hope of those who comprise it. -Is it still a pe nding issue that connection? -Yes, we talk about consensus in tourism planning, but does not mean its real. Many times the
The public and private sectors must join forces to attract shippers
authorities present tourism plans that do not reach the majority of professionals and entrepreneurs. In this new stage we will do everything possible for a fully representation of the tourism professionals in the various initiatives coming out of the public administrations. It is essential to refer to the base, wich is the tourism business men, who have much to contribute. -What specific aspects are missing from the Skal in these plans? -For example, in the cruise industry we have one of the best infraestructures of the Mediterranean, with such popular destinations like Mlaga and the Costa del Sol, but we need to agree. Public and private sectors must join forces when talking with carriers, so they see a connection between us. They have to know that the tourist actions go in the same direction. In this sense, it is essential to go to these carriers to sell us like a solid destination, supported by all entrepreneurs, professionals and administrations. -Why is it so im po rtant to the tourism sector the cruise industry? -The cruiser is a tourist who makes a flying visits, six to eight hours. They are real sponges that quickly grasp the target. And if they like, they will come later with frinds or relatives to stay overnight. But we compete with other ports of destination, where they also accumulate experiences. And our goal as an industry is that what they take from Mlaga and the Costa del Sol has to be excellent. -The media also work, and hard, on this target. How does precisely this publication? -Welcome To Mlaga is an innovative and necessary initiative, with a demand request. When a cruiser gets off the harbour terminal and goes out, goes a little blind to the city. They know nothing of the restoration, shops, etc, etc. And that is what provides this magazine, wich I think it is a great idea because brigs many positives to the sector.

nes of Mlaga is La Campana. Once there were more than twenty bars under that name, but keep open just three: two in Mlaga, one inTorremolinos. The oldest is precisely in the center of the capital, in Calle Granada. There, the wine goes into the background to make way for a wide range of seafood. Cooked shrimp, razor clams, shells and fried fish are some of the specialties of the house. The small size of the bar gives charm to any lunch or dinner. It is best to resign yourself to eat up and enjoy the ambience that always has the place. This route has to be completed in El Pimpi, also located in Calle Granada (with a second entrance in Calle Alcazabilla). This is a true sanctuary of local wine and gastronomy. It has several ambiences for the enjoyment of customers, but many prefer to stay in the living room where the barrels are signed by famous people. Among them, the singer Lola Flores or Mlaga actor Antonio Banderas.
CURIOSITIES
In Mlaga some vestiges of those traditional places survive, there it is possible to drink their typical Mlaga muscatel wine
-Yet it is strinking that in the Antigua Casa de Guardia waiters have the habit of scoring with chalk on the bar for drinks from customers. So, they sum the drinks until prompted the final bill. -Do you imagine why the name of La Campana (The Bell)? Try tipping and you will know. -Although its decor suggest otherwise, El Pimpi only is 41 years since it was founded.Amazing.
In the Antigua Casa de Guardia you can buy wine to take home.
Sorprendente.

LAGA has a large and healthy culinary repertoire beyond the topics and that is part of the so-called Mediterranean Diet. From that base part La Carta Malacitana, an association committed to the defense and promotion of the culinary heritage of the province. This group has recently released a set of signature dishes from the genuine cuisine of the province, wich inlcudes, for example, some cold soups as Gazpacho, Porra of Antequera, Ajoblanco, Ajocolora o Chambao, among others. These elaborations are very suitable for summer and have the common denominator of extra virgin oil. The repertoire performed by La Carta Malacitana has a wide presence of dishes with sea flavor. In a province facing the sea, stand as unique specialties sardines, lemon anchovies, tuna and snapper. From inland, come stronger working with ingredienntsfrom the the garden, as casseroles, stews, sops or scrambled. And also meats have their role in the gastronomy of Mlaga. Pork, prepared in many differente forms, and the suckling lamb recipes inspierd by many different regions of the province. There is no shortage of unique ann quality products such as olive Alorea (the only one in Spain with its own designation of origin), the actual suckling lamb, goat cheese, olive oil (Mlaga is the spanish province with more varieties of olives), honey or wine 8(ed, white and sweet). Special mention deserve fruits and vegetables. Those have found in the Mlaga weather their ideal place. This is the case of the Guadalhorce valley citrus, peaches from Periana, Alfarnate cherries, loquats from Sayalonga, avocados and other subtropical fruits (chirimoya, mango, lychee, etc) in the region of Axarquia. Those blend perfectly with honey and cakes of anciente Andalusian origin.

rocks, El Torcal has become a veritable museum of outdoor sculptures. This set of limestone, a Natural Area since fourteen years ago, is divided into four distinct zones: Sierra Pelada, Slashes and Slopes,Torcal Alto y Torcal Bajo. The last two are the most strinking from the geomorphological point of view.
Thus, in the so-called Torcal alto are located large stones that have been christened with nicknames that define their original shapes: objets or living beings. These are the cases of blocks as the Pot, the Camel, the Sombrecillo, Dog Face, Seven Tables, and so countless natural sculptures waiting to be discovered by mans gaze.
THE SCREW
But the most strinking figure is what is called the Screw, with the status of Natural Monument of Andaluca. In addition to this institutional recognition, this big block has become an emblem for El Torcal, thanks to the shapes that the rain and wind have created. The corridors or alleys are very curious too, sometimes amazingly narrow, but they allow to get into the heart of the karst. The high position of this natural reserve turns it a splendid balcony from which to contemplate unique landscapes. So it happens with the Mirador de las Ventanillas, where you can see the Ro Campanillas valley and the small town of Villanueva de la Concepcin. This village, yet today attached to the municipality of Antequera, will soon become the one hundred and one municipality of the province. On clear days, it is possible to watch the African continent.
FLORA AND WILDLIFE
The ecological value of El Torcal is very high, thanks to more than six hundred plant species located in the area. In regard to wildlife, you can find such animals as foxes or wild goats. The latter one is easy to see, as long as you walk quietly. Even easier it is to see the many birds of prey that nest in this rocky system. Reptiles also have used the feautures of this set of limestone to make it their habitat. The best way to approach for the very first time to El Torcal is through its routes, such as Green, an easy and feasible route in less than an hour. There is another route more complicated and long, the Yellow. Furthermore, always with a guide, you can make other itineraries.
