1. Ubicación
Pucallpa es una ciudad peruana capital del distrito de Callería y a la vez de la
provincia de Coronel Portillo y del departamento de Ucayali. Se ubica al centro
norte del país, y es la décima ciudad más poblada del Perú.
Se ubica en el Oriente al centro Norte del Perú a orillas del río Ucayali en el llano
amazónico. (8°23′00″S 74°33′00″O)
Esta categorizada como la única ciudad en el departamento de Ucayali, siendo el
mayor centro poblado del departamento.
Pucallpa es una de las ciudades con más rápido crecimiento a nivel nacional en
Perú, con una población de 170 000 habitantes en 2000, siendo su tasa de
crecimiento promedio de 5,6 % entre 1981 y 1993

Sobre el patrón de ocupación, la población está asentada en las márgenes de los
ríos y por otro lado el crecimiento informal ha sido el patrón predominante de
expansión urbana en la Provincia de Coronel Portillo.
La ocupación se ha caracterizado por la venta ilegal e informal de los terrenos y
la depredación de los terrenos agrícolas, como el caso de los distritos de
Callería, Manantay y Yarinacocha, que hicieron peligrar la producción agrícola.
Otra de las características de estas localidades es la ausencia de servicios
básicos generando una gran demanda a los gobiernos locales para la atención a
las necesidades de servicios de infraestructura
