This program is for children ages birth to completed Grade 5, and is located on the first floor of The Westin hotel. Why children at General Convention? Children are a part of the greater Church; it is essential that they are present. To witness the course of history of The Episcopal Church for the next three years. To participate in the worship and activities of the Church. What is happening with children during General Convention? Consider the importance of children: Participating in the daily liturgy; Seeing and experiencing the Indianapolis area; and Engaging in an outstanding collaborative program. Space is limited, but walk-ins are welcome if there is any remaining space. To pre-register, please fill out a form on the following website: https://www.formstack.com/forms/DFMS-gc_children
We strive to make energy-conscious decisions to help reduce the environmental impact of the Church during General Convention. Among the green initiatives at the Indiana Convention Center: Around Your Neck: Name badges and badgeholders are a part of our greening efforts for the General Convention, using recycled paper with soy-based inks and Bio-D biodegradable badge holders compliant with ASTM Marketing and Communication Standard E2746. Neck wallets worn by Bishops, Deputies, Alternate Deputies, and ECW Triennial attendees have a biodegradable vinyl window and are constructed of 95% recycled PET. Biodegradable products: Products include cutlery made from cornstarch; clear colored, corn-based cups; plates and bowls made from sugarcane fiber; and hot cups that lined with plant-based plastic. Bring Your Own Mug (BYOM): Attendees are encouraged to purchase or bring a coffee mug that can be (re-)filled with coffee at any of the Convention Centers concession outlets. Carbon Offsets: The Episcopal Church has decided to partner with NativeEnergy to offset a portion of the CO2 emissions from this years Convention that is helping to build the Wewoka Landfill Gas to Energy Project located in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Food Rescue: Seconds Helpings, a food rescue program, reclaims food after functions and takes it to kitchens at their facility. Local residents are given the opportunity to participate in job-training programs under the supervision of trained chefs, and prepare food that is given to homeless shelters and missions in the Indianapolis area. Recycling: The Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium recycles more than 60 tons of aluminum cans, plastic bottles, cardboard and glass on an annual basis. Paper and cooking oil are also recycled. A food waste pulper recycles dishwater and condenses other waste before going into landfills. If you would like to learn more or help with offsetting the carbon footprint of your travel to and from the General Convention, more information about NativeEnergy and their resources are available at: http://www.nativeenergy.com/how-carbon-offsets-work.html http://www.nativeenergy.com/travel-carbon-calculator.html
