Pluralización
La pluralización en inglés puede parecer un poco confusa al principio, pero una vez que se
comprendan las reglas básicas, es bastante fácil.
Regla 1
Los sustantivos normalmente se pluralizan agregando una – s – al singular.
Examples:
one book - libro two books
one top – cima three tops
one hat – sombrero six hats
Regla 2
Los sustantivos que terminan en -s, -sh, -ch, -x, o -z forman el plural agregando -es
Examples:
One bus – camioneta two buses
one brush – cepillo four brushes
One watch – reloj three watches
One box – caja ten boxes
Buz - zumbido Eight buzzes

Regla 3
Los sustantivos terminados en -y- precedida por una vocal agregan -s para formar su plural,
pero aquellas que terminan en -y- precedida por una consonante cambian la -y- por – i - y
se agrega – es.
Examples:
one day two days
one key five keys
one boy three boys
one lily three lilies
one baby two babies
one fly several flies
Regla 4
Los sustantivos terminados en -f o -fe, forman su plural cambiando la -f o -fe en -ves.
Examples:
one leaf - hoja two leaves
one loaf – pan three loaves
one wolf - lobo five wolves
one knife – cuchillo ten knives
one wife – esposa three wives

NOTA:

Algunos sustantivos terminados en -ief, -ff, -oof, no siguen la regla anterior, sino que

simplemente agregan -s para formar el plural.

Examples:
one handkerchief – pañuelo two handkerchiefs
one cliff – acantilado some cliffs
a belief – creencia several beliefs
a roof – techo two roofs

Los sustantivos terminados en – o – precedida por una consonante normalmente agregan –

es – para formar el plural (excepto las palabras relacionadas con música, generalmente de
origen italiano como, solo, piano, soprano, banjo). Los sustantivos terminados en – o –
precedida por una vocal normalmente agregan una – s –.

Existen algunos plurales irregulares que no siguen ninguna de las reglas anteriores y que
debemos memorizar:

Existen algunos sustantivos que mantienen la misma forma en el plural:
