HUESO – Bone:
articulada.
Bone is a living organ that contains cells and blood vessels that supply it with oxygen and
nutrients. Together they form the skeleton or skeletal system. Each part fulfills a particular
function and as a whole in relation to the neighboring parts to which it is articulated.
OSTEONA – Osteone:
denominan Osteonas.
Havers' system is the anatomical and functional unit of bone tissue. It consists of a Havers
canal, around which are grouped lamellae with lacunae containing bone cells, either
osteocytes or osteoblasts. These structural units are also called Osteons.
CRESTA – Crest:
A ridge is a bony protrusion that, as in the case of the pectinate ridge on the posterior
surface of the femur where the pectineus muscle sits, serves as an insertion point for a
muscle.
SURCO – Groove:
The protruding part of a bone by which it articulates to another bone or into which a
muscle inserts.
The respiratory tract of vertebrates, formed by cartilaginous rings, which begins in the
larynx and descends past the esophagus to the middle of the chest, where it bifurcates to
form the bronchi.
FOSA – Fossa:
TUBÉRCULO – Tubercle:
A small rounded spot on a bone. It also refers to a nodule attached to bone, mucous
membrane (parts of the body coated in a moist layer) or skin.
TUBEROSIDAD – Tuberosity:
Prominencia de un hueso.
Prominence of a bone.
CAVIDAD – Cavity:
Hollow space inside a body or on a surface, especially in the organism of living beings.
Example: "Orbital cavity".
FRONTERA – Border:
Bone structure (vertebrae) that encloses the spinal cord and the fluid surrounding the
spinal cord.
AGUJERO – Foramen:
Bone extensions.
Cartilage is the firm but flexible tissue that covers the ends of bones in a joint. It also gives
shape and support to other parts of the body, such as the ears, nose and windpipe.
