Present Simple y Present Continuous.
Tabla 1.
Conjugación del verbo to be.
You are a doctor. You are not a doctor. Are you a doctor?
We/you/they are doctors We/you/they are not doctors Are we/you/they doctors?
2
RECUERDA
tercera persona, el auxiliar cambia a does not o doesn’t.
do o does.
oraciones interrogativas, la estructura a seguir suele ser: Do/Does + Subj + Vb.
presente… ¡en el do! (does = do + -es).
Tabla 2.
- Utilizar el verbo to be como auxiliar en vez de do/does (Are you like my new car?)
(Usually, I no eat pizza).
3

repetitivas o diarias, empleamos el Present Simple (I go to school by bus).
Present Continuous (Marcos is talking with Sara).
eventos ya conocidos (Columbus discovers America in 1492 o In the first book, the main
character loses his family).
situaciones temporales (My girlfriend is living in Paris o I am working in a shop) o
acciones que se repiten (You are always playing video games o I am not helping you
again!).
Algunos
ejemplos de verbos de estado son: be, believe, cost, have, know, like, live, think (They
don’t like dogs o I live in Madrid).

1) Read the following text and answer the questions.
Hi! I am Rose. I have short straight brown hair and small green eyes. I am medium height
and thin. Right now, I am wearing a white shirt, black jeans and black shoes with black
socks. I am 14 years old, so I am still really young.
My mother is called Jessica. She has short, curly brown hair and green eyes. She is tall, thin
and really pretty. She usually wears long skirts, bright shirts and high heels shoes. She is 47,
so she is medium age.
My father, Carl, is very different! He is completely bald, short and chubby but he is really
fun and humorous. He has big blue eyes and a very big mouth. He usually wears white
shirts, jeans and comfy shoes. He is older than my mum, I think he is 60 years old.
Compared to my mother, he is old!
Me and my big sister, Helena, are not alike. She is tall, slim and incredibly beautiful. She
has long, wavy blonde hair, big blue eyes like my father and wide pink lips. She usually
wears beautiful dresses, with bright colours and sandals. She is 20 years old and she is now
living in Portugal because she is studying there.
b) Mark any word you do not understand and search its meaning. Write them down
here (both the word and the meaning).
Jennifer: Jennifer is a woman that works with my father. She is always making jokes and
people consider her to be _________. In addition, she never tells lies so we can say she is
__________. However, Jennifer does not like to work. She usually takes a lot of time to do
what she should. I think she is a bit _________.

Marcos: Marcos is my friend. He is very ____________ because he shares everything he
has with the rest of his friends. Also, he never has problems making new friends because he

answer to people harshly when he has arguments. He can be ____________.
Cristina: My girlfriend, Cristina, has amazing manners and she always treats people
according to their status, that is why everybody says she is ____________. Moreover, Cris
takes little time to learn new things, which means she is very ___________. My only
problem with her is that she is a total mess. Her clothes are always on the floor of the room
and she rarely cleans. My girlfriend is a bit ______________!
Jordi: Jordi is my brother. His friends say that he works harder than any of them, so I guess
we can say he is ______________. Also, is very difficult to scare my brother because he is
a ___________ person. The only bad trait my brother possess is that, sometimes, he does

a) Complete the text using the following words: cold, lazy, polite, friendly,
hardworking, fun, brave, untidy, honest, generous, rude, clever.
b) Read the text again and decide which one of the four people (Jennifer, Marcos,
Cristina, Jordi) matches the definitions.
o If you need money, you can ask __________ to lend you some.
o If you want to laugh and have a good time, _____________ is the best!
o If you need someone to help you understand something, __________ can help you.
o ___________ will always finish his work, no matter what.
beautiful flower” o “the big blue car”.
Tabla 8
IMPORTANTE
12
- Formas irregulares comparativas y superlativas: algunos adjetivos tienen formas
irregulares para comparar. Estos adjetivos son “good, better, the best”, “bad, worse, the
worst” y “far, farther, the farthest”.
4.2. Exercises.
1) In the following sentences, some adjectives are not placed in the right order. Order
them.
2) Correct the errors that can be found in the adjectives of the sentences below.
and cheese”.
13
b) Establecer elementos introductorios.
oración: “In addition, more funds will be given to some organisations”.
d) Dar información extra no esencial.
La oración “Noelia, who is French, is the name of my new assistant” es un
ejemplo: "She said ‘I do not know…'".
14
5.3. Exercises.
1) Write a brief piece of text about both of the topics listed below. They should be around
120-150 words.
a) Imagine you have to introduce yourself to someone. Describe your personality and
physical appearance.
6. Listening.
