They are mammals, live in groups, have dense brown and yellow fur.
They live in primary mountain and cloud forests between 1,400 and 2,700 meters
above sea level.
They feed on flowers, leaves, lichens, fruits, epiphytic roots, among others.
National legislation has classified this species as endangered and critically endangered
in the list of threatened species for the conservation of nature of the International
Union.
The yellow-tailed choro monkey is one of the 25 most endangered primates in the
world and ranks third in South America.
The destruction and fragmentation of its habitat, illegal logging, and illegal hunting and
trade are its main enemies.
Specimens of this animal can be found in protected natural areas such as the Abiseo
River National Park, the Cordillera de Colán National Sanctuary, the Chayu Nain
Communal Reserve and the Mayo High Protection Forest.
