Abstract
This research set out to study the possible existence of a relationship between job satisfaction
correlational scope. The sample was composed of 71 adults residing in the Dominican Republic,
aged between 20 and 74 years of both sexes, 37 men and 34 women. The scales used were the
Spector Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) (1985) (adapted into Spanish by Conrado-Marion Landais)
and the Reduced NEO Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) developed by McCrae and Costa
(1992). The results obtained indicate that the participants were generally satisfied with their jobs
and with the factors of satisfaction with Payment, Promotion, Supervision, Contingent
Recognitions, Co-workers, Nature of the work and Communication. Regarding the factors of
Operating Conditions and Complementary Benefits, they reported feeling ambivalent, that is,
they were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied. As for the personality factors, participants reported a
medium Neuroticism, high Extraversion, high Openness, very high Agreeableness, and low
Conscientiousness. A significant difference between men and women for the Neuroticism factor
was demonstrated, with women presenting a higher average. The results obtained indicate that
Conscientiousness and job satisfaction. Neuroticism showed a weak negative relationship with
job satisfaction, that is, when Neuroticism decreased, job satisfaction increased. Extraversion
and Responsibility obtained a medium positive relationship with job satisfaction, that is, they
were directly proportional. However, the relationship found between job satisfaction and
Conscientiousness is spurious, this means that there appears to be a relationship, but this does not
make sense theoretically, because the sample obtained low levels in this factor, while it was
satisfied with their work. In contrast to what the existing literature indicates about the
Extraversion.
