Técnicas de manufactura y estampado La manufactura de sellos se llev6 a cabo como parte del trabajo cerdmico que hac un grupo determinado en una region y en un periodo de tiempo especticos, por lo que es de esperarse que las acillas los procedimientos utilzados para la produceién de sellos fueran similares a los utilizados para producir otras cerémicas De la misma manera que se hacia con cualquier otro objeto cerdmico, el sello era modelado de manera individual y se le daba la forma que se queria ya fuera cilindrica o plana. Para la elaboracién de los dsefios no se utilzaba un molde con las decoraciones previamente dibujadas; los entresacados se hacian cuando el material estaba todavia blando y se realizaban mediante la técnica de excisién, que consiste en quitar parte de la superficie de la arcilla, con lo cual se lograba obtener un disefio en alto y bajo relieve. El dibujo elaborado en los sells cilinricos abarcaba toda la superficie, pero en el caso de los sellos planos, el dibujo cubria solamente la superficie lisa, Finalmente el seo era horneado, Coma se ha dicho enisten dos formas de sellos, los planas yylos clindricos. Por ejemplo, el diserio en forma de cruz, que se conoce ‘como "cuz Kan", estd relacionado con la regign maya y aparece de manera importante en las decoraciones ‘cerdmicas del Pacifico Norte, entre los afios 800 y 1350 4.C., especialmente en el tipo cerdmico Mora Policromo. ‘Objetos Mora Folicromo han aparecida como offendas funerarias en enterramientos de la Regién Central. Posiblemente estos objetos legaron allf como resultado del intercambio entre ambas regiones. Dado que este motivo también esté presente en los sellos de las dos regiones, podria suponerse una relacién temporal y asumir que también se compartia el significado del motivo "cruz Kan", el cual debid ser social y simbdlicamente importante para representarlo en objetos cerdmicos utilizados para el intercambio y en abjetos utilizados para las decoraciones de personajes de alto rango, EI motivo en forma de guiloche o de una banda trenrada, que ‘generalmente representa a dos serpientes entrelazadas, «parece de manera constante en materiales del Pacifico Norte desde el 2fo. 300 a.C. asta el 700 dC, formando parte de las decoraciones de jades, cerimicas y metates.
