Cómo se forman los superlativos y comparativos

Tanto los comparativos como los superlativos se forman a partir de un

adjetivo que se convierte en su raíz. Dependiendo de la naturaleza del adjetivo de
raíz, los comparativos se forman de diferente manera:

Adjetivos cortos (monosílabos o bisílabos): los adjetivos que tienen una o dos
sílabas forman comparativos agregando la terminación –er, y forman superlativos
agregando la terminación –est.

Adjetivos cortos TERMINADOS EN Y: en estos casos, se reemplaza la «y» por
«i» y luego se agrega la terminación -er o -est, según corresponda.

Adjetivos cortos terminados en una sola vocal + consonante: se duplica la

consonante y luego se agrega er o est, según corresponda.

Adjetivos de tres sílabas o más
En este caso, el adjetivo permanece igual, sin cambiar la terminación, pero antes
del mismo se agrega la palabra “more” para formar el comparativo y las palabras
“the most” para formar el superlativo.
