“it may not be said however that this work has advanced
in any fundamental way the scholarly knowledge of these
matters, for except in support of the view that this figure
had a life beyond Genesis, it sustains no systematic the-

10 “Apócrifo”, oculto, es el nombre que se utiliza para referirse al conjunto de libros que no
forman parte del canon de las Escrituras, ni de la literatura rabínica ni la propia de Qum-
ram. En contexto judío y protestante “apócrifo” se identifica con “deuterocanónico”, tér-
mino propio del mundo católico, conjunto de libros que no se consideran canónicos en la
Biblia hebrea pero sí en la LXX. “Pseudoepígrafo” se dice del libro que oculta la identidad
de su verdadero autor bajo el nombre de otro ya canonizado con el deseo de captar la
atención y el interés de los destinatarios. En todo caso, terminología ambigua y siempre
