Sumérgete en el Inglés
More than English
inglés, porque Pueblo Inglés es “More Than English”.

Common Error - 10 thousands of people
When we talk about a specific quantity of something, we don’t use ‘of’ in English. A
common mistake occurs when students talk about money – we say ‘three million eu-
ros’ and NOT ‘three million of euros’. Notice that when the quantity is not specific, we
do us ‘of’ in English: millions of people, thousands of cars…
Tokyo has more than 15 million inhabitants. - Tokio tiene más de 15 millones de habit-
antes.
You make 70,000 euros a year! - ¡Ganas 70,000 euros al año!
Over a long weekend, there are thousands of cars on this road. – Durante un puente,
hay miles de coches en esta carretera.

Idiom - All ears
When you are ‘all ears’ it means that you are ready to listen. Just listen. You don’t
need your mouth (technically you don’t have one) if you are all ears. We often
use this expression when somebody is about to tell you some gossip or news that
you are anxious to hear.

Common Error - All of the days
In general, you can use both ‘all’ and ‘every’ to talk about amounts. All the people =
everybody. However, when we talk about frequency with time, we must use ‘every’:
Check on her every hour. I go to the gym every day.
‘All day’ means ’24 hours per day’.

Idiom - Break the ice
The ice that this idiom refers to is the nerves and uncertainty that come from be-
ing in a group of people that you don’t know well. ‘To break the ice’ usually refers
to some type of phrase or activity that is used to make people more comfortable
with each other of to get things started when people are hesitant.
