 Origin of Halloween
Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2021 will occur on Sunday, October 31.
The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear
costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all
saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All
Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving
jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.

Halloween es una fiesta que se celebra cada año el 31 de octubre, y Halloween 2021 tendrá lugar el domingo 31 de
octubre. La tradición tiene su origen en la antigua fiesta celta de Samhain, en la que la gente encendía hogueras y se
disfrazaba para ahuyentar a los fantasmas. En el siglo VIII, el Papa Gregorio III designó el 1 de noviembre como
fecha para honrar a todos los santos. Pronto, el Día de Todos los Santos incorporó algunas de las tradiciones de
Samhain. La víspera se conoce como Víspera de Todos los Santos, y más tarde Halloween. Con el tiempo, Halloween

 Halloween Activities
❑ People use the pumpkins to cut them, sometimes fill them with candy and also form terrifying faces.
❑ People dress up in costumes on this day and go from house to house asking for "trick or treaters". In many occasions,
the trick is to throw eggs or toilet paper, they usually run away before being caught in the act.
❑ The city of Salem is famous for its history of witches and is one of the largest monetary earners of the holiday.
❑ And this is where security increases because they take advantage of the opportunity to do what they shouldn't do.

❑ Las personas usan las calabazas para hacerles cortes, algunas veces las llenan de dulces y también forman caras
terroríficas.
❑ Las personas se disfrazan ese día y van de casa en casa pidiendo "dulce o truco". En muchas ocasiones, el truco es
lanzar huevos o papel higiénico, suelen salir corriendo antes de ser descubiertos en el acto.
❑ La ciudad de Salem es famosa por su historia de las brujas y es de las que más ingreso monetario tiene en esta
festividad.
❑ Y es donde la seguridad aumenta porque aprovechan en hacer lo que no deben.

 The story of the Salem witches is the most popular and for
the time they were executed, it was a great hunt. There are
rumors as theories, but many villagers claim to hear them
laughing and screaming on October 31st.

La historia de las brujas de Salem son las más populares y es que para le
época las ejecutaban, fue una gran caza. Hay rumores como teorías, pero

Cats are said to be symbolic animals because they are
often likened as a good companion for witches, also
that they are able to cross the world of the living and
the dead with ease.

las brujas, también que son capaces de cruzar el
mundo de los vivos y de los muertos con facilidad.
