STATEMENT FROM THE ICAA CONCERNING THE 2020

PETER C. MARZIO AWARD

As announced by the ICAA on March 30, the 2020 ICAA Peter C. Marzio Award for
Outstanding Research in Latin American and Latino Art was awarded to Rodrigo
Cañete for his submitted paper. Subsequent to the announcement of the prize,
the ICAA and the award jury were made aware of other writings by Mr. Cañete
that do not meet the ICAA’s standards. The prize has been rescinded on that basis.
The ICAA was founded to bring a scholarly focus to the extraordinary
contributions made by Latin American and Latinx artists over the last hundred
years. The ICAA remains committed to respect for all persons and does not
tolerate abusive language or discrimination in any form.

DECLARACIÓN DEL ICAA EN REFERENCIA AL PREMIO

2020 PETER C. MARZIO

Según fue anunciado por el ICAA el pasado 30 de marzo, el Premio Peter C. Marzio
de 2020 por Notable Investigación en Arte Latinoamericano y Latino fue otorgado
a Rodrigo Cañete por el texto que presentó. Poco después del anuncio de la
premiación, tanto el ICAA como el Jurado de Concesión fueron informados acerca
de otros escritos del Señor Cañete que son incompatibles con las normas de uso
en nuestra institución. Bajo tales premisas el mencionado premio ha sido
rescindido. La fundación del ICAA se enfocó, desde un inicio, en brindar
proyección profesional a los notables aportes hechos por artistas
latinoamericanos y latinx a lo largo de un siglo. El ICAA continuará su compromiso
de respeto absoluto a todos, aunque sin tolerar ya sea lenguaje abusivo y
desmedido o bien discriminación en ninguna de sus formas.
