This section of coast is the most fatidical Costa da Morte. In it, eight shipwrecks have been registered, with 245 victims, but the one that more commotion created,
and it remains recorded in the memory of people is the one that took place the night of 10th November of 1890 when the Serpent, a training navy of the British
Merchan, which was sailing with strong drift looking for the light of Cabo Vilán, ran aground against the rocks in the middle of a strong surge. The ropes they
thrown from the ship were breaking as thin threads against the rocks. They tried to use the boats, but the large waves were sweeping the whole cover. Later the
distressing shout was listened of " Be saved who can! ".
Only three sailors managed miraculously to come alive to land, helped by the same sea that was
killing their companions. The remaining 172 died and their bodies were coming to the beach (playa
do trece) in the successive days, when the temporary one subsided.
In the interior cockpit of the current cemetery are the remains of the captain and the officials and in
the exterior those of the sailors. In the first years a ship of the English navy was approaching up to
the place to throw a wreath, and every English ship of war that passed near these coasts they were
throwing a few volleys of ordinance in honor of the companions buried in the English Cemetery.
Access: From Arou, comes near for a track, during approximately 10 km that are done endless.
