RESUMEN
ABSTRACT
Compression index is one of the most important parameters for the consolidation process in soils; it is directly
related with settlements produced in a soil mass during certain time. The value of compression index can be
found through different tests, however this process take a long time, so the use of empirical expressions can
quickly lead to fairly good preliminary values. These expressions are a function of several index properties of
soil, like water content (w), consistency limits, void ratio (e).
In this work, 22 studies from Puebla City were analyzed, in which the index properties of soil were
stablished, along with the help of compressibility graphics, mathematics equations were obtained which
involve both parameters. These relations will provide to the geotechnical engineer a useful tool to get
preliminary results easily, which will give us a general idea of the field studied, considering the values
obtained are only an estimate and these don’t replace the final results.
