loss or deprivation can have significant effects on performance, motivation, perception of effort and cognition as
well as numerous other biological functions.
Externa:
Devices such as SRMTM and PowerTapTM allow the continuous measurement of work rate (power output). In
team sports, time–motion analysis (TMA), including global positioning system (GPS) tracking and movement
pattern analysis via digital video (such as ProZoneTM) are becoming increasingly popular to monitor athletes.
Measures of neuromuscular function such as the jump test (countermovement/squat jump), sprint performance,
and isokinetic and isoinertial dynamometry are often utilized in the team sport environment; variables from jump
test measurements include mean power, peak velocity, peak force, jump height, flight time, contact time, and
rate of force development.

- Diestros o zurdos; Ambimanuales; Ambidiestros.

Children of the same chronological age can differ by several years in their level of biological
maturation. Growth, development and rate of maturation is the result of a complex
interaction of genes, hormones, nutrients and the environments (physical and psychosocial)
in which the individual lives. This combination of factors regulates the child’s physical
growth, neuromuscular development, sexual maturation, mental, cognitive and emotional
development, and general physical metamorphosis during the first two decades of life.
The terms “growth” and “maturation” are often used together and sometimes
synonymously. However, each refers to specific biological activities.
• Growth refers to observable step-by-step changes in quantity and measurable changes
in body size such as height, weight, and fat percentage.
• Maturation refers to qualitative system changes, both structural and functional, in the
body’s progress toward maturity such as the change of cartilage to bone in the skeleton.

Sensitive Periods
A sensitive period is a broad timeframe or window of opportunity when the learning
of a specific skill or the development of a specific physical capacity is particularly
effective. The entire period of childhood can be viewed as a sensitive period for
mastering fundamental movement skills (Gallahue and Donnelly, 2003).
Currently, most athletic training and competition programs are based on
chronological age. However, athletes of the same age between ages 10 and 16
can be three to five years apart developmentally (Borms, 1986). Thus,
chronological age is a poor guide to segregate adolescents for competition.

1. Stamina (Endurance): The sensitive period for stamina occurs at the onset of the
adolescent growth spurt. Aerobic capacity training is recommended before athletes reach
PHV. Aerobic power should be introduced progressively after PHV when growth rate
decelerates.
2. Strength: The sensitive period for strength in girls is immediately after PHV or at the
onset of menarche, while for boys it is 12 to 18 months after PHV.
3. Speed: For boys, the first sensitive period for speed occurs between the ages of 7 and
9 years, and the second occurs between the ages of 13 and 16. For girls, the first
sensitive period for speed occurs between the ages of 6 and 8 years, and the second
occurs between the ages of 11 and 13.
Balyi, I., Way, R., & Higgs, C. (2013). Long-term athlete development. Human Kinetics.
PREPARACION FISICA
4. Skill: The sensitive period for optimal skill training generally takes place between the
ages of 9 and 12 years for boys and between the ages of 8 and 11 for girls, or more
precisely before the onset of adolescent growth spurt (the “skill hungry” years).
5. Suppleness (Flexibility): The sensitive period for suppleness for both genders
occurs between the ages of 6 and 10. Although flexibility training during puberty yields
good results, special attention should be paid to flexibility during the adolescent growth
spurt, due to stresses on muscles, ligaments and tendons by the rapidly growing
bones.

Bielen, and Amery (1991) found reasonably high genetic components for maximal aerobic and
anaerobic power even when differences in the amount of exercise and other life-style factors
were controlled. However when testing was made at submaximal levels—more comparable to
normal activity levels—the amount of exercise and other life-style factors accounted for all
systematic variance. This result suggests that many physiological
characteristics are the result of adaptation to a level of daily activity.

Moreover, the primary method of altering height, except for reduction by surgery,
consists of supplementary injections of growth hormone during development. All of this
persuasive evidence compels us to attribute adult height primarily to genetic factors
when nutritional requirements are met.

Gaser and Jancke (2011) trained novice golfers using 40 hours of golf practice and play and
compared with a control group with no experience in golf. The pre-/ post MRI showed
significant increases in the dorsal spatial attention frontal area of the trained group that were
not present in the control group. In particular there were changes in the parietal-occipital
junction (POJ) which is functionally and anatomically connected to the visual system.
Increases in gray matter in this area provide an additional clue why a long duration QE is
essential to golf success; it assists and establishes, in a consistent manner, visuospatial
attention control that is associated with enhanced spatial learning and body
perception/control. Similar results have been shown for elite ballet dancers (Hangii, et al
2010).

coordinativas.

This may suggest a more direct transmission of visual signals to executive motor regions in athletes, whereas the
visual information has to pass a more ‘‘indirect’’ and thus more time-consuming pathway in nonathletes. This is
further supported by motor imagery experiments where nonathletes exhibited widespread neuronal activity in a
distributed network in contrast to focal activation especially of the SMA in athletes (5). Therefore, earlier BA6
activation and, thus, earlier movement initiation may result from efficient visuomotor networks in athletes that
provide straightforward and thus time efficient visuomotor signal transmission. By contrast, indirect visuomotor
connections and the activation of a distributed network in nonathletes may slow down the visuomotor
transformation process and delay premotor activation The results of this study confirm superior visuomotor
performance in badminton athletes. This is related to faster visuomotor transformation processes as reflected by
an earlier activation of premotor and primary motor regions rather than to a faster perception of visual signals in
the visual cortex. Athletes and nonathletes also differed with regard to BA4 activation. Specifically, athletes
showed a stronger BA4 activation in the time interval between 144 and 340 ms. This is in accordance with the
results of Endo et al. (10) likewise reporting higher M1 activation in athletes compared with nonathletes during a
simple visuomotor reaction task. The timing of group differences in BA6 (start at 116 ms) and BA4 (start at 144
ms) may further suggest a serial dependence of visuomotor processing in BA6 and BA4. Therefore, our results
indicate not only faster visuomotor transformation in the athletes_ supplementary and premotor region (BA6) but
also an earlier activation of M1 (BA4), which is responsible for movement execution.
