The Chemical Industry, a leading player for Spanish economy
La industria química es uno de los mayores y más
consolidados sectores industriales de este país. Su peso
específico como motor económico de España se traduce en la
generación del 5,8% del PIB y del 3,5% del empleo de España,
si sumamos sus efectos indirectos e inducidos. Con una cifra
de negocios que asciende a 66.500 millones de euros de los
cuales casi el 60% se facturaron en mercados exteriores
-hasta los 38.500 mill/€- y un peso creciente en países de
fuera de la UE, el sector químico es el 2º mayor exportador de
la economía española, justo detrás del automóvil.
En el ámbito del empleo, el sector químico es un buen ejemplo de actividad industrial
generadora de empleo de una elevada de calidad en términos de salario y estabilidad
puesto que proporciona empleo directo a 205.200 personas que asciende hasta casi
700.000 si contamos también los empleos indirectos e inducidos. El sueldo medio por
trabajador asciende a 37.500 euros y el 93% de contratos son indefinidos.
Por lo que respecta a la Innovación, se trata de un sector especialmente volcado en
esta área. De hecho, el año pasado se destinaron más de 2.800 millones de euros a
I+D+I, lo que supone una cuarta parte del total de la inversión privada en esta área.
Asimismo, 1 de cada 5 investigadores del sector privado son contratados por la
industria química.
Una de los principales rasgos de este sector y clave de su consolidación radica en su
carácter transversal puesto que interviene en prácticamente todas las cadenas de valor
de las industrias manufactureras. De hecho, el 98% de las actividades productivas,
requieren de la química en algún punto del proceso de fabricación, ya sea en los
campos de la salud, el consumo, la movilidad, la construcción, la alimentación, o la
energía, por lo que su demanda es siempre derivada. De ahí, que se trate, sin lugar a
dudas, de una industria esencial y estratégica para garantizar el funcionamiento y
desarrollo de nuestra sociedad actual.
The chemical industry is one of the largest and most
consolidated industrial players in Spain. Its specific weight as
an economic pulling force in Spain is evidenced by the
generation of 5.8% of GP and 3.5% of Spain's total
employment, including its indirect and induced effects. With a
turnover of 66.5 billion euros, 60% of which are destined to
foreign markets - up to 38,500 million euros- and a growing
weight in non EU markets, the chemical sector is the 2nd largest
exporter of the Spanish economy, only behind the automotive
industry.
In terms of employment, the chemical sector represents the highest quality
employment offered by any industrial activity both in earnings and stability since it
procures direct employment to 205,200 people and to almost 700,000 workers if we
consider the indirect employment created by its activity. The average salary per worker
is currently 37,500 euros and 93% of the contracts are permanent in nature.
The chemical sector is specially set in promoting and applying innovation. In fact, more
than 2.8 billion euros were spent on R&D and innovation last year, accounting for a
quarter of the total private investment in this area in Spain. Moreover, 1 out of 5
private sector researchers are employed by the chemical industry.
One of the chemical sector’s main features and key to its consolidation is its cross-cut-
ting nature, since it intervenes in all manufacturing industries’ value chains. In fact,
98% of productive activities require chemistry at some point of the manufacturing
process, whether it is in the fields of health, consumer goods, transport, construction,
food, or energy, its products are continually demanded. Hence, the chemical sector is
undoubtedly an essential and strategic industry to ensure the proper functioning and
development of our current society.
