3.1 Haz un informe sobre el tema: There is / There are y escríbelo en el siguiente cuadro.
Incluye en tu informe, 5 ejemplos de frases con there is y 5 ejemplos con frases con
there are. Los ejemplos deben estar relacionados con los cinco sitios culturales turísticos
elegidos para la evidencia 7.

¿Qué es un informe? Un informe es una explicación de un tema. Así, en este informe

debes especificar los usos, las reglas, los aspectos curiosos… del there is y there are,
como expresiones que sirven para hablar de lo que hay en un lugar.

There is / There are

Las expresiones there is y there are hablan de la existencia o no-existencia de las cosas,
como en español hay.

Por ejemplo…

Hay algo de café en la cocina. = There is some coffee in the kitchen

Hay dos personas en el ascensor. = There are two people in the elevator.

La gran diferencia con el español es que en inglés diferenciamos entre there is en

singular y there are en plural.

THERE IS and THERE ARE en español se traducen como «hay» y nos ayudan a decir si
hay o no hay ciertas cosas. Dicho esto, veamos dos oraciones de ejemplo:

 There is one apple in the fridge (Hay una manzana en la nevera).

 There are three bananas in the fridge (Hay tres plátanos en la nevera).

Para negaciones, añadiremos la partícula NOT abreviada: there isn’t / there aren’t.
Vamos a ver algunos ejemplos de there is y there are en negativo:

 There isn’t any milk (No hay leche).

 There isn’t enough butter (No hay suficiente manteca).

3.2 Keep an eye out for the usage of there is and there are. Fíjate con
atención en el uso de las expresiones there is y there are.

This is the Simón Bolivar Square, it is located in Manizales, Caldas. Behind the
square there is an important church in Manizales called The Cathedral. In front of
the Simón Bolivar Square you can see the city council. By this square, there are
many stores, cafes and buildings. Next to the square, there are some banks and
music stores.
