Trujillo

La ciudad costera de Trujillo es la capital del departamento de La Libertad. Trujillo cautiva a

todo aquel que lo visita no sólo por la variedad de actividades que se realizan en este lugar.
Parte del encanto de la ciudad se debe al contraste que producen las casonas coloniales y
centro histórico con las asombrosas huacas de las culturas Moche y Chimú cerca de la ciudad
dando como resultado una cultura exquisita.

En Trujillo se encuentra la Ciudadela de Chan Chan, conocida a nivel internacional como la

ciudadela de barro más grande del mundo prehispánico. Fue declarada Patrimonio Cultural
de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1986.
Otros sitios arqueológicos de Trujillo son la Huaca del Sol y la Luna, Huaca del Dragón, el
Complejo Arqueológico EL Brujo; los cuales dejarán al visitante con una sensación de
encuentro con milenarias civilizaciones.
En la periferia de la ciudad se puede visitar la caleta de Huanchaco, conocida por sus
caballitos de totora y balneario y las playas de Chicama, las cuales son una de las playas
favoritas de los surfistas, pues su ola izquierda es considerada la más larga del mundo con
2km de recorrido.

Trujillo es afamado también por las tradicionales celebraciones del Concurso Nacional de
Marinera, concurso de caballos de paso peruano, exhibición y concurso de caballitos de
totora, entre otras celebraciones por lo que es llamada también la “Capital Cultural del Perú”.

The coastal city of Trujillo is the capital of the department of La Libertad. Trujillo captivates
all who visit, not only because of the variety of activities that takes place here. Part of the
city's charm is due to the contrast produced by the colonial mansions and historic center, with
the amazing "huacas" of the Moche and Chimu cultures near the city resulting in an exquisite
culture.

At Trujillo is located the Citadel of Chan Chan, known internationally as the largest clay city
in the pre-Hispanic world. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986.

Other archaeological sites in Trujillo are the Huaca del Sol y la Luna, Huaca del Dragon, and
El Brujo Archaeological Complex, which will leave the visitor with a sense of having
encountered ancient civilizations.

On the outskirts of the city, you can visit the cove of Huanchaco, known for its reed
watercraft and beaches, and the beaches of Chicama, which are prized by surfers, as
Chicama's left wave is considered the longest wave in the world at two kilometers in length.

Trujillo is also famous for the traditional celebrations of the National Contest of Marinera
Peruvian Paso horses, a show and competition of reed watercrafts, and other celebrations that
make it the "Cultural Capital of Peru."

Getting to and around Trujillo

To get to Trujillo, you can go by plane or by bus. Two airlines offer daily flights from Lima to
4 Trujillo. If you prefer to go by bus, there are many good bus companies that offer good options. To
get around in the city, you can take taxis. The official ones are yellow with postcard-sized municipal
stickers of the city's coat of arms on the windshield.
