Paracas es una ciudad portuaria, un balneario, una península, una bahía, una cultura
preincaica y una Reserva Nacional. Está en la costa central de Ica y a 261 km al sur de Lima.

El balneario de Paracas tiene sol y clima de verano casi todo el año. Es uno de los principales
destinos turísticos de playa del país y desde aquí se puede ir a visitar en bote a las Islas
Ballestas. Navegando hacia las islas Ballestas, en el camino se puede apreciar El Candelabro
que es un geoglifo de grandes dimensiones que sirve de faro a los navegantes. Este geoglifo
está relacionado con las líneas y geoglifos de Nazca pero al igual que éstas, hasta el día de
hoy aún no se ha podido determinar su significación.
Las Islas Ballestas albergan también una importante cantidad de fauna marina como
pingüinos peruanos, los cuales se encuentran en peligro de extinción, lobos marinos y otros
mamíferos.

En Paracas también se encuentra la Reserva Nacional de Paracas, única reserva marina del
Perú; dedicada a la protección y la conservación de ecosistemas marinos, y para la protección
del patrimonio cultural e histórico de la cultura preincaica Paracas (800 a.C. 600 d.C.). Ha
sido declarado “Patrimonio Natural de la Humanidad” por la UNESCO.

Esta ciudad tiene también un especial significado entre los peruanos ya que en esta bahía se
produjo el desembarco de los seis navíos del Ejército Libertador al mando del general José de
2 San Martín e inició la campaña de independencia y fin al virreinato español.

Paracas es un lugar en donde se entrelazan diversos factores que hacen de este sitio uno de
los principales destinos turísticos del país.

Paracas

Paracas is a port city, a seaside resort, a peninsula, a bay, a pre-Inca culture, and a National
Reserve. It is on the central coast of Ica and 261 kilometers south of Lima.

Paracas is sunny and has summer weather almost all year. It is one of the country's main
beach resorts, and from here you can visit by boat the Ballestas Islands. On the way there,

you can appreciate the candelabra, a large-scale geoglyph that serves as a lighthouse for
mariners. This geoglyph is related to other geoglyphs such as the Nazca lines; like them, the
candelabra's significance has not yet been determined. The Ballestas Islands are also home to
a significant amount of marine fauna, such as endangered Peruvian penguins, sea lions, and
other mammals.

In Paracas is also the Paracas National Reserve, Peru's only marine reserve, devoted to the
protection and conservation of marine ecosystems and the protection of the cultural heritage
and history of pre-Inca Paracas culture (800 B.C. to A.D. 600). It has been declared a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The city also has a special meaning among Peruvians, for in this bay landed six ships of the
Liberation Army led by General José de San Martín, who initiated the campaign for
independence and the end of the Spanish viceroyalty.

Paracas is a place where diverse factors are woven together, and that makes this site one of
the main tourist destinations.

catamaran sailing, and sandboarding. The only way to visit Paracas is by bus or car. Tourist buses
depart from Lima very often.
