El Carnaval de Negros y Blancos es la fiesta más grande e importante del sur de Colombia,

por su Indicación Geográfica le pertenece a la ciudad de San Juan de Pasto, también ha sido
adoptada por otros municipios nariñenses y del suroccidente Colombiano. Se celebra del 2
al 7 de enero de cada año, y atrae un considerable número de turistas colombianos y
extranjeros.

The Carnival of Negros y Blancos is the largest and most important festival in the south of
Colombia, due to its Geographical Indication it belongs to the city of San Juan de Pasto, it has
also been adopted by other towns of Nariñense and southwestern Colombia. It is celebrated
from January 2 to 7 of each year, and attracts a considerable number of Colombian and
foreign tourists.

El carnaval comprende cuatro etapas importantes:

The carnival comprises four important stages:

1: CARNAVALITO: inicia el día 3 de enero donde los niños realizan su propio desfile de
carrozas en escala infantil, concebidas y elaboradas por ellos mismos.

CARNAVALITO: starts on January 3 where children make their own parade of floats on a
child scale, conceived and made by themselves

2: LA FAMILIA CASTAÑEDA: Inicia el 4 de enero conmemorando la llegada de una familia

compuesta por personajes coloridos, se dice que iban en peregrinación al Santuario de Las
Lajas al sur del departamento de Nariño.

THE CASTAÑEDA FAMILY: Starts on January 4 commemorating the arrival of a family

composed of colorful characters, it is said that they went on a pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of
Las Lajas in the south of the department of Nariño.

3: DIA DE LOS NEGROS: Se realiza el 5 de enero donde la Reina del Carnaval recorre la ciudad
en una caravana, repartiendo cosmético e invitando a unirse al juego con la frase: ¡Una
pintica por favor.

DAY OF THE BLACKS: It is held on January 5 where the Carnival Queen travels the city
in a caravan, distributing cosmetic and inviting to join the game with the phrase: A

DIA DE LOS BLANCOS: Se realiza el 6 de enero o día del desfile magno porque consta
de la presentación de Disfraces individuales, Comparsas y Carrozas.

4: DIA DEL CUY: Se realiza el 7 de enero con el remate de carnival con una celebracion
gastronómica mostrando su principal plato típico.
