 5.3. Curriculum vitae sintético (no más de 15 líneas) de cada uno de los profesores
participantes
Nacido en Argentina y radicado en Estados Unidos desde 1985, Fares posee un
Ph. D. en Literatura Latinoamericana con énfasis en Estudios Culturales de la
University of Pittsburg, EE.UU. (1989). Además, tiene un Master en Lenguas
Extranjeras y Literatura y un Master en Pintura y Litografía, ambos de la West
Virginia University (1986), así como un título de Abogado de la Universidad de
Buenos Aires (1983). Fares ha publicado varios libros y artículos sobre la obra
del escritor Juan Rulfo, sobre escritoras argentinas actuales, y sobre crítica
cultural. Ha sido un Fulbright Fellow en 2004 en la U. N. de Cuyo, y es
actualmente parte del Fulbright Specialist Program por el período 2015-2020.
Desde el 2000 se desempeña como Profesor del Spanish Departament y de Latin
American Studies en Lawrence University, Wisconsin, EE.UU

6.2. Procedencia: Alumnos de la Maestría en Literaturas Contemporáneas en Lengua
inglesa.
Alumnos y egresados de otras carreras universitarias compatibles. Los alumnos
avanzados de grado pueden asistir pero no son evaluados y reciben solamente
constancia de asistencia.
6.3. Cupo mínimo y cupo máximo de asistentes: cupo máximo de 40 alumnos y
mínimo de 10 alumnos

7. Fundamentación
El seminario propones estudiar la teoría crítica actual en inglés relativa al tema de la
representación del espacio en textos literarios relacionados con la frontera y su cultura en
diferentes contextos.
Este acercamiento es novedoso en la academia argentina, y es parte del así llamado
“spatial turn” en las Humanidades que se está dando de un tiempo a esta parte en la
academia norteamericana. Este seminario ofrece la novedad, además, de estudiar textos
poco examinados desde el punto de vista geocrítico, como lo son aquellos relacionados
con las fronteras, tanto entre Estados Unidos y México, como las fronteras en general.

8. Objetivos
 Estudiar teoría crítica en inglés relativa al tema de la representación del espacio en
textos literarios relacionados con la frontera y su cultura en diferentes contextos.
 Leer de maneras novedosas autores y obras del mundo anglófono y latino
contemporáneo.
 Comprender la importancia del espacio en la literatura como portador de marcas
culturales y de identidades en contextos anglófonos y fronterizos.
 Analizar las relaciones entre historia, sociedad en torno a la espacialidad literaria en
áreas y productos fronterizos

9. Contenidos
Durante el curso se leerán textos de geocrítica, que abarca acercamientos teóricos al tema
del espacio en la literatura, del espacio leído como texto, y de los textos como espacios
de representación cultural. Alrededor de análisis relativamente recientes acerca de los
roles de la “presencia” (Gumbrecht Production of Presence(2004), y del tema del espacio
en la literatura, centraremos nuestras lecturas en obras de ficción de la literatura anglófona
y latina contemporáneas.
Los asistentes al curso leerán textos teóricos y literarios previamente enviados en pdf a la
biblioteca de la U. N. de Cuyo. Estas re/lecturas se compartirán mediante presentaciones
en equipos, y conversaciones participativas.

10. Metodología de trabajo y/o actividades de los asistentes

El curso se desarrollará como un seminario en el cual los asistentes serán responsables de
 hacer presentaciones sobre los textos,
 participar en discusiones libres y guiadas, y trabajar en grupos para explorar
diferentes aspectos de las obras presentadas y examinadas.

11. Descripción de las actividades prácticas indicando lugar donde se desarrollan,

modalidad de supervisión y modalidades de evaluación
A lo largo del cursado los alumnos trabajarán en grupos de discusión con lecturas
asignadas previamente. Asimismo, realizarán presentaciones orales que serán
monitoreadas y evaluadas por el profesor responsable del curso.

12. Evaluación final: modalidad y requisitos de aprobación

-Porcentaje mínimo de asistencia para que el alumno acceda a la evaluación: 70%.
La evaluación consistirá en presentaciones orales que harán los alumnos el último
día del curso, sábado 10 de agosto de 2019.
