Galería CURRO presenta la primera exposición individual en Guadalajara de la artista Cristina
Garrido (Madrid, 1986).

A Dominant Mode of Art Production reúne una serie de obras recientes de la artista, resultado
de sus últimas indagaciones respecto al establecimiento de las ferias de arte contemporáneo
como una nueva institución artística que, desde los años sesenta y en especial durante la última
década, han transformado la manera en que se percibe, comercializa y produce arte en la
actualidad, tanto física como virtualmente.

La exposición incluye piezas de video, collage, pintura e instalación. Con ellas la artista
propone, más allá del simple señalamiento, una reflexión para adentrarse en los mecanismos que
dominan el arte contemporáneo. Además, mediante técnicas de reapropiación y resignificación,
ofrece una imagen autocrítica de este sistema.

Garrido observa en el surgimiento de las ferias de arte como institución y en su formato de

especificidad temporal, espacial y arquitectónica, un nuevo marco de comprensión para el arte,
los artistas, el público y las exhibiciones; lo que lleva a repensar el papel de las galerías de arte
contemporáneo y los museos.

Galería CURRO presents the first individual exhibition in Guadalajara of the artist Cristina
Garrido (Madrid, 1986).

A Dominant Mode of Art Production brings together a series of recent works by the artist, as a
result of her last investigations on the establishment of contemporary art fairs as a new artistic
institution. Since the late sixties, and especially during the last decade, they have transformed
the way art is perceived, marketed and produced today, both physically and virtually.
The exhibition includes works of video, collage, painting and installation. The artist offers,
beyond a mere statement, a reflection to delve deep into the mechanisms dominating
contemporary art. In addition, by means of reappropriation and resignification techniques, she
provides a self-critical image of this system.

Garrido observes in the emergence of art fairs as an institution and in its format of temporal,
spatial and architectural specificity, a new framework for understanding art, artists, the public
and exhibitions; which leads to rethink the role of contemporary art galleries and museums.
